Phi Theta Kappa Sigma Zeta Chapter March 2008 Newsletter Choose Leadership and Make a Difference! ? Phi Theta Kappa 90th International Convention Our Chapter President, Dee Lauzon, is running for International Vice President for Division IV. This is a huge honor to be running; chapter officers are working very hard to get everything ready for the upcoming convention. The convention will be held April 2-5, 2008 in Philadelphia, PA. Vice President, Megan Worman will be Dee’s campaign manager. Megan will also be a flag bearer carrying Oregon’s flag in the opening ceremonies. Also, Velda Arnaud, Chapter Advisor, has been nominated for the 2008-09 Secretary of the Association of Chapter Advisors position. Four advisors have been nominated (one from each division), and elections will be held on Saturday of the Convention. Information about the convention is online at www.convention.ptk.org ? Elections for 2008-09 Chapter Officers It is time for elections for the 2008-09 chapter officers. Applications are online at http://lanecc.edu/ptk/board.html. We have several positions available. Completed applications are due in Velda’s office by 5 p.m. on Friday, April 18. Elections will be held at our chapter meeting the following week. (Additional details will be available on our web site after we finalize spring term meeting dates and times.) We are working at getting some stipends for chapter officers, and in order to receive one, the officer must be attending Lane Community College full time during the 2008-09 academic year. Elections for regional officers will be held at our conference in May, and if you are interesting in those positions, please let us know as well. ? 2008-10 Honors Study Topic The Paradox of Affluence: Choices, Challenges, and Consequences ? Mark your Calendars for May 9-11, 2008 This will be the regional conference and our Chapter’s 40th Anniversary. The event will start at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2008, and we will conclude about 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 11. Detail were provided in February’s newsletter ? Winter Term Induction Our informal induction will be held on Friday, March 21, at 3 p.m. in Building 2, Room 203. All new members who have not already been inducted may attend. We will have snacks, and family and friends are welcome. ? Better World Books We are still collecting books for Better World Books. If you have any that you would like to donate, please contact us. Textbooks under five years old will go to Better World Books. Other books will be donated to charities in our community. The main thing is to keep this books out of our landfills.
