Phi Theta Kappa Sigma Zeta Chapter February 2009 Newsletter “Reel” Dynamics of Affluence: Movie Night On Monday, February 23, 2009, we will be watching Philadelphia and discussing the Paradox of Affluence as it relates to wellness in our society. We are looking forward to a lively discussion following the movie. Please come join us. We will meet in Building 2, Room 202. Please bring snacks to share and your own beverage. Feel free to invite non-chapter members to participate as well. Wanted: 2009-10 Chapter Officers Do you want to help lead one of the world’s greatest Phi Theta Kappa chapters? If so, consider running for a chapter office. Elections will be held following the candidate presentations. If you have questions, please ask Velda. Wanted: 2009-10 Regional Officers At the regional conference in May, chapters will be voting on regional officers. This is an excellent opportunity for you. If you will be enrolled at Lane through the academic year, consider running. The leadership trainings will be very helpful. Our hope is to have at least the regional president and communication officer positions be held by Lane students. Ask Velda if you are interested. February Board of Education Meeting Our chapter “ogre”d the Board on Wednesday, February 18. It was a great way to display our latest fundraising effort and have some fun with the board members. If you would like the ogre routed a particular direction, please come by and make your donation. Upcoming Raffle Our chapter will be soliciting donations for a new raffle focusing on local restaurants, motels, and activities. If you have suggestions, please contact one of the chapter officers or Velda. If you would like to sell or purchase raffle tickets, let us know as well. 30th Avenue Road Cleanup Even though Lane’s campus was closed on Monday, February 16, our chapter cleaned 30th Avenue. There were 11 volunteers, and we gathered 35 bags of trash. Our next cleanup will be during spring term. We would appreciate any help you can provide with the next cleanup. Lane Preview Night Lane Preview Night is Wednesday, March 4, at 6 p.m. Our chapter will have a table and assist with the event. Regional Conference The regional conference will be hosted by Clackamas CC on May 1-3. As usual, we plan to have a great time. This is also when regional officers are elected. If you would like to attend, please contact us as soon as possible. Winter Induction Winter induction will be at the beginning of our March 9 meeting. Any chapter member who has not been inducted may attend. Induction is an informal ceremony, and you may bring family and friends. Better World Books We are still collecting textbooks, and our next campus pickup will be Friday, March 20. If you would like to help pick up books or if you have books to donate, please contact us. SOLV Beach Cleanup Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 28. That is the next SOLV beach cleanup. We are currently making plans for the event. Normally we stay on the coast on Friday and Saturday nights and include leadership and scholarship activities. Details will be available in February’s newsletter.
