The 90th International Convention

Two members from our chapter attended the International Convention at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from April 3-5, 2008. It was extremely educational--George Will, Christiane Amanpour, James Rubin , and Amy Tan were guest speakers, and we had a lot of fun. Our chapter brought home five awards and one International Officer:

• Sigma Zeta is one of the Top 25 Chapters for 2007 and brought home the distinguished chapter award. (There are currently about 1250 chapters internationally.)
• Sigma Zeta received the Scholarship Hallmark award. (The first time our chapter has received this award.)
• Velda Arnaud, Chapter Advisor, received the Paragon Award for New Advisors serving less than five years. This is her third year as advisor, and this is her third paragon award.
• Dr. Mary Spilde, College President, received the Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction.
• Dr. Sonya Christian, Vice President of Instruction, received the Administrator Award of Distinction.
• Dee Lauzon, Chapter President, has received the honor of being the 2008 International Division IV Vice President.

In addition, our chapter presented an educational forum at the convention. Our topics were Building a Chapter Web Site - Basics and Building a Chapter Web Site - Beyond the Basics.
