TEMPORARY OVERFLOW PARKING LOTS TO BE DESIGNATED
Take the bus, car pool, and arrive on campus early.
Remember that for the first week or so of fall term, we usually have way more vehicles trying to park in our lots than we have spaces. This leads to frustration and delays for both staff and students getting where they need to be on time at this critical time of the year.
In past years, Public Safety has had all of it's officers working during the morning parking rush. While this has greatly eased the time needed to get into the lots, it hasn't created more places to park. It also has resulted in a lot of additional cost to the college and very interrupted work schedules for the officers.
This year we are trying a new approach which we anticipate being more cost effective and efficient for all. Facilities is identifying grassy areas on campus that will be lined out and used as overflow parking. This will create a significant increase in the number of available parking spaces. Stay tuned for where these overflow lots will be located.
Staff are requested to use the overflow lots the first two weeks of fall term.
As lots fill, Public Safety will put up "lot full" signs to help you avoid circling in an already full lot.
Lastly: All staff are urged, encouraged and politely requested to TAKE THE BUS.
Though parking is free on main campus (except where clearly posted) space is limited and is on a "first come, first serve" basis.
Of the available parking spaces, Lot N (the northeast parking lot off of Eldon Shafer, near the athletic fields) is usually the last to fill.
Parking in "non-designated" parking areas, upon roadways and shoulders, or in fire lanes and pedestrian access, could result in fines and/or impound of vehicles.

Because of fire danger we are restricting access to the woods from LCC property to instructional activities only.
Officers have extinguished several minor fires in the landscape bark on campus in the evenings and on weekends. The hot, dry conditions; combined with careless behavior, is creating a real danger for our campus. Please notify Public Safety if you notice smoke from any area, and join with us in requesting that people smoking on campus use the designated shelters and ash trays.
Lastly, in this hot weather some people are leaving their car windows down. We have had several instances where someone has gone through the glove boxes of these vehicles and taken some items. So, if you leave your windows down, don't leave anything of value in your vehicle. Please notify Public Safety if you feel someone has entered your vehicle.
Thank you

Director, Health and Safety

During this budget crisis, a reduction in some services are imminent.
Once result of this function is the potential for the Public Safety Office to remain un staffed. Officers will still be on duty providing what services possible, but the office it self will be closed at various times.
Lost and Found and key services will not be available during these closures.
Battery assistance packs will still be available, though a delay my result in on duty officer response.

Winter Term has shown an increase in thefts from the Physical Education Locker rooms.
On 02-27-2006 one person was taken into custody for theft. There is indication that this person was not working alone and potentially other suspects may still be active and outstanding.
Please take care with your valuables and be aware of suspicious persons and/or activities, and report promptly to any college official and/or Public Safety.

The safety of students, employees and the general public is a major consideration of the college. It is important for everyone on campus to be aware that the college campus, like the community in general, may not be completely free of criminal acts. Lane Community College strongly believes that everyone has a role in providing a safe learning environment. Public Safety Officers are available, upon request, to make presentations to campus groups on ways to increase their personal safety on campus and prevent crime. In addition, this information is available on the Public Safety web site at: www.lanecc.edu /psd/main.htm Officers are also available to meet with individual students and staff to discuss their specific safety concerns on campus and work on a personal safety plan. Public Safety recommends the following safety actions:* Lock your vehicle and keep all valuables out of sight
* After dark use the lighted walkways on campus
* Don’t look like a victim. Walk briskly and with confidence
* Have keys ready before you reach your car.
* Scan the interior of your parked car before entering
* Always be aware on your surroundings.
* Report suspicious activity to Public Safety at 463-5558.
* When using the wooded trails go with a buddy.

Public Safety has received several reports of thefts of opportunity since January of 2005, increasing in frequency.
Most thefts have occurred in unsecured, unattended office spaces and/or unlocked P. E. lockers.
Please do not leave your valuables unattended and unsecured. Locks are inconvenient by design, the inconvenience out weights the replacement of your identification or other valuable property.
Report any person in a normally secure area that does not belong. Call Public Safety at 463-5558 or 463-5559 immediately.

In the event that bus service is lost for Lane Community College Main Campus, Public Safety has the following suggestions/tips for commuters.
1 - Parking may be limited, so arrive early to search for available spaces. In your search do not forget to look in Lot N, the northeast parking lot off of Eldon Schafer.
2 - Ride-Share when available. Two or more people in one vehicle frees up spaces for other students.
3 - Parking is allowed only in "legal" parking spaces. These spaces are clearly marked with a line on both sides.
NOTE: Special parking spaces are clearly marked; i.e., Health Occupations, 30 minute, disabled, etc.
4 - Parking enforcement will be active for the safety and convenience of the college community. Violators may be cited or towed as necessary to maintain a safe and orderly campus.
5 - Avoid traffic and ride a bike.
6 - Additional safety and convenience note: traffic laws are enforced on Lane campuses. So be legal and be safe.
