We have recently updated the Dance pages with
the most current information about Dance at Lane and spiced up
the pages with some interesting and beautiful photos. Over the
years we have had many opportunities to capture our faculty,
student and guest dancers on film and now we will share a few of
these photos with our online visitors. Click

pages.
6-05-2003 -- Welcome
to the new Music, Dance, and Theatre Arts web pages-
After
almost two months of work, we are proud to unveil the new MDTA
web pages! Our thanks to all who have contributed to making
these new pages possible: Chris
Munson - content and MP3 encoding;
former student Melanie Wilson
of Madlantern Arts - design, photos, layout and coding; Ed
McManus - photos and content; Barbara
Myrick - content; staff members from other departments
that lent us their expertise and all of the generous students
that let us snap their photos.
Among our new
pages you will find information about the music,
dance, and theatre
departments, a schedule of our
upcoming performances, links to
useful performing arts online resources, and a lot of other
information about us. Please feel free to browse around and see
what's new. One exciting new feature is the availability of
current student projects
from the Music Technology Lab
and the Recording Studio.

-- Students Enjoy the New MDTA Building-
The
2002-2003 academic year saw the opening of the new Music, Dance
and Theatre Arts expansion at Lane. Outfitted with a new Music
Technology and Resource Center and a classroom dedicated
specifically to electronic music composition with twenty
MIDI/Audio stations, the new expansion makes the MDTA Department
at Lane the shining star of music technology education in the Pacific
Northwest! See photos of:
In addition to the
building expansion are a number of new classes and new study
options for students interested in music technology.
In
the music field as in most fields of work and study, technology is becoming
more prevalent and familiarity of this equipment is essential. As
a result, the popular classes that used to be called
"Electronic Music 1" and "Electronic Music
2" have been updated in both name and curriculum. Now there
are three
classes, Introduction
to Music Technology, Music Technology 1, and
Music
Technology 2 and they are held in the new Music Technology
Lab/Classroom.
Each of the twenty stations offers a cutting-edge experience in
modern electronic music!
Also
in the study of music technology, three terms of a new course
have been added to the schedule: Audio Engineering
1 (MUS 107), Audio Engineering 2 (MUS 107), and
Audio Engineering 3
(MUS 107). These classes are a sequence of
engineering classes designed to take the student through the
entire process of recording, mixing, producing audio projects.
It meets in the new recording studio where students can work
directly with the latest in professional equipment and software.
For
students who wish to peruse a career in music
technology, there
is a new suggested course of study that will prepare music
majors for study in music technology at the University of Oregon
or Northwest Christian college. The "2+2=Career"
degree
is a cooperative effort between Lane Community College and Northwest
Christian College to offer students interested in being studio
engineers, producers, session players, accountants, lawyers, managers,
promoters, or otherwise involved in the music industry. Sound
interesting? Contact Barbara
Myrick for more information.

2001 and the building should be completed and ready for use
beginning in September 2002.
The upstairs remodeling project includes the following facilities:
The most significant improvements for our
students are still under construction as part of a major addition to
our building. This addition features the following:
Get ready! Beginning in September '02, we plan to offer expanded curriculum in the areas of music
