D 160 - Dance Composition - 3 Credits

Prerequisite: D 257 - Dance Improvisation
Student learns the procedures, techniques and tools used to create dance pieces. Attention is given to solo composition and group composition. This is a required course for dance majors. Class is repeatable up to 12 credits.

D 260 - Group Choreography - 3 Credits

Prerequisite: Dance Composition (D 160) 
Studies principles and techniques of arranging bodily movements to create a dance specifically focusing on variations in group form. May be used to, meet arts ad letters requirement for the AAOT degree and satisfies a University of Oregon dance major prerequisite. Class is repeatable up to 12 credits.

D 257 - Dance Improvisation - 2 Credits

Prerequisite: Two of the following dance courses: modern, jazz, or ballet.
This course is an exploration of spontaneous dance movement based on selected criteria or structures. The investigation will be based on elements of dance such as weight, time, space, form, and intent. The focus will include solo and interactive or group explorations. Choreographic devices will be introduced throughout improv structures. The intention is to free up the creative abilities when inventing new dance material. Class is repeatable up to 12 credits.

D 261 - Dance Rehearsal and Performance - 1-3 Credits

Prerequisite: Instructor's consent.
Designed to provide practical application of classroom theory and skills. Should be taken by participants in a dance concert of theatrical production of the department scheduled for public performance. Class is repeatable up to 9 credits.

 (this is a 3 part series; D160 is only in the fall, D257 in winter and D261 in the spring)
