EUGENE, Ore.– Dr. Margaret Hamilton earned enthusiastic praise from the Board of Education in her first performance review as the seventh president of Lane Community College.

Board Chair Mike Eyster read from a statement on behalf of the board at its Sept. 13 meeting. “Dr. Margaret Hamilton brought a fresh perspective to Lane at the right time,” he said.

He credited Hamilton with making significant progress towards the board’s priorities of student success, access and equity, driving the economy, and institutional effectiveness and advancement.

Hamilton was praised for her collaborative approach and the ability to achieve consensus, an entrepreneurial spirit, and local community outreach. Eyster said she addressed challenges with “unflappable, competent, and professional aplomb while never taking her eye off the ball.”

“Dr. Hamilton has proved herself as an astute, strategic, contagiously energetic, joyful, gracious, hard working, and highly productive and effective CEO,” said Eyster.

Hamilton became Lane’s seventh president in July 2017. It is her first presidency following 30 years in community college leadership focused on education, strategic planning, accreditation, curriculum development, human relations, workforce and economic development, and building partnerships. Before Lane, she was vice president for academic affairs, institutional effectiveness and planning at Camden County College in New Jersey. She has a doctorate in in nursing education from Widener University, a master of science in nursing from the University of Delaware, and a bachelor of science from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh.
