Eugene, Ore. – The Lane Symphonic Band, under the direction of Paul Krueger, will perform a program of "Modern Wind Band Music" on Thursday, May 28, at 7:30 pm in the Ragozzino Performance Hall on the LCC main campus.
The program will consist of:
"Mechanism"................................ Todd Stalter
"Lincoln"........................................John Williams/arr. Jay Bocook
"On An American Spiritual"............David Holsinger
"Sheltering Sky".............................John Mackey
"Foundry"...................................... John Mackey
The oldest piece in this set was composed in 1991. "Mechanism" and "Foundry" are both very industrious, percussion heavy pieces. "Foundry" actually gets its name from the idea that many of the percussion instruments are "found," such as wooden bowls or metal objects. "Lincoln" is an arrangement of the music from the recent film "Lincoln". The composer, John Williams, also scored the music to "The Cowboys," "Star Wars," "Indiana Jones," "Jurassic Park," and much more. "Sheltering Sky" is another John Mackey piece, but very lyrical and beautiful, in contrast to the industrious "Foundry."
Tickets are $5 general admission, $3 for students and seniors 55 and over. Advance tickets may be purchased online at www.lanecc.edu/tickets
