EUGENE, Ore. — Lane Community College has been awarded a $114,016 CCAMPIS grant by the U.S. Department of Education. The Child Care Access Means Parents in School (CCAMPIS) program provides grants to higher education institutions to support the participation of low-income parents in postsecondary education through the provision of campus-based child care services. Grants may be used for before- and after-school services.

“Students who have access to quality child care are more successful in completing their education goals,” said Cheryl Henderson, Child and Family Education Manager at LCC. “CCAMPIS funds allow student parents to focus on their education. We are proud and excited to receive the CCAMPIS grant to support eligible Lane student parents and their children.”

Full or part-time students of LCC with children enrolled in the Lane Child and Family Center for a minimum of 20 hours per week, who are Pell Grant-eligible, may qualify for the grant. Interested students are encouraged to contact the Center today for more information as space is limited. The grant covers up to 80% of child care fees; students are responsible for the remaining balance. Additional financial resources are also available.

The Lane Child and Family Center is a state licensed preschool/child care program serving families on LCC main campus. The program is one of three centers in Lane County accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children and rated 5 stars by Oregon's Quality Rating and Improvement System. The Center is a teacher preparation school and parent cooperative.

Lane was one of the four Oregon institutions awarded the CCAMPIS grant; others included Oregon State University, OSU-Cascades and Central Oregon Community College. Grants are made for four-year grant award cycles.
