Dr. Susan Pavel—sa’hLa mitsa—weaves for ceremonial reasons, both when the spirit moves her and when an occasion arises, such as a wedding, birth, death or life passage. She creates educational exhibits in community spaces because she believes strongly in instructing the public. She weaves because she was entrusted with the sacred obligation to pass on the teachings to the next generations, resulting in classes and presentations. And she exhibits her weavings as an art form to share the deeply woven beauty that is the Coast Salish. The exhibit will be shown in the Roger Hall Gallery from November 6 to December 6.
