world premiere of seven new works for the theatre
Performances will be February 8 through 18 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:00 p.m. in the Blue Door Theater, Building 6, LCC main campus, 4000 E. 30th Ave., Eugene. Admission is free. Donations for theatre scholarships will be accepted at the door. Tickets will be available at the door and may be reserved by calling (541) 463-5648.
Under the guidance of local playwright Paul Calandrino and Lane theatre lead faculty Dr. Brian Haimbach, the students have been polishing their works in anticipation of the premiere. The evening also offers a play by local writer Rachel Carnes and a devised performance under the direction of NYC and Eugene theatre artist Willow Norton. Winter Shorts offers students the opportunity to take full control of the process, from the initial idea to closing night.
After each matinee, the audience will be encouraged to stay for a talkback. “Feedback is invaluable to the future life of these plays and these artists,” says Haimbach. He adds that the shorts are an excellent way to reinforce the collaboration and communication skills that theatre offers students, and produces an evening of innovative performances for the audience. “See these works now so you can say ‘I knew them when….’”
Student playwrights are Rebecca Blanchard, Ripley Cerna, Brianne Orloski, Adam Nealy, and Malachite Schnell. The productions will be directed by students Jordan Hibbard, Brianne Orloski, Justin Dennis, Tyler Anthocy, and Madeline Fox.
