The Lane Community College Longhouse Committee Presents - Pura Fe': A Benefit Concert For The Longhouse
return to main Pura Fe' event page

The Lane Community College Longhouse Committee would like to invite you to attend a benefit concert with Pura Fe’ for its Longhouse.  The concert is being held on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at 8:00 PM at the McDonald Theatre in Eugene, Oregon.  The theatre is located at 1010 Willamette Street in downtown Eugene.

We are excited that Pura Fe’ has agreed to come to Eugene for Lane’s Longhouse Benefit Concert.  As you may know, she is a very talented Native American singer and dancer.  Pura Fe’ is perhaps best known for being the founding member of the renowned native woman’s capella trio, Ulali.  Pura Fe is now performing on her own and doing very well.  In 2006, she won the Nammy (Native American Music Award) for Best Female Artist and a French Grammy for Best World Album as well as being nominated for a Juno Award (Canadian Grammy) for Best Aboriginal Music Video.

You may also be interested in knowing that in Indian County, Pura Fe’ holds a Smoke Dance champion title and is a recipient of the Community Spirit Award from the First Peoples Fund of the Tides Foundation, for her volunteer cultural contributions of traditional song and dance, working with Native youth groups in North Carolina.

Please help us welcome this wonderfully talented Native American woman and support Lane Community College’s Longhouse.  If you wish to purchase tickets, you may do so directly through TicketsWest at (800) 992-8499 or (503) 224-8499, or online at http://ticketswest.rdln.com

Prior to the concert, the Longhouse Committee will be holding a silent auction and reception to meet Pura Fe’ from 6:00 – 7:00 PM in the lobby of the McDonald Theater.  We would also like to invite you to the reception and silent auction.   If you or anyone you know is interested in donating items to the silent auction, please contact Longhouse Committee member, Twila Souers, at (541) 688-8683, or Elizabeth Andrade in the President’s Office at (541) 463-5801.

In addition the Longhouse Committee is seeking sponsors for this event.  We have included a handout outlining the various levels of sponsorship*.  If you know of anyone who might be interested in supporting the event by being a sponsor, please let Donna Koechig know.  You may contact Donna at (541) 463-5307, or email her at koechigd@lanecc.edu.  The Longhouse Committee greatly appreciates your help and support.

If you could help spread the word, we would appreciate it. We have a poster available, if you want a hard copy of the flyers or a larger color poster, please contact Donna Koechig at the above address to request one or request an electronic version.. With your and others’ help, we hope to have a sell out crowd.

Again the Longhouse Committee would like to thank you for your continued support of its Native American Longhouse.  As you know, we anticipate that we will have the exterior shell of the Longhouse completed by September 2008.  While we are approximately two thirds of the way through with our fundraising efforts, we still need funding for the final phase of the Longhouse.  Please join us with this exciting event and help to complete Lane Community College’s dream of having a Native American Longhouse on its campus.  We hope that you will be able to attend and look forward to seeing you at the concert!
