LONGHOUSE LOGS GO UP TODAY
Tuesday, June 3, 8:15 a.m., Longhouse site near parking lot A. Sixteen Douglas Fir logs measuring 12 feet long by 20 inches in diameter that will serve as upright, interior supports for the 6,200 square foot longhouse will go up today. The logs are from the Coquille Forest in Southwest Oregon and were donated and blessed by the Coquille Tribe and then turned at a mill in Molalla. The Longhouse will serve as a multicultural educational facility and meeting place for students and the community. Construction follows years of advocacy and planning by students, staff and others. About $1 million in cash and in-kind materials has been donated by more than 200 individuals, businesses, organizations, foundations, tribes, and casinos, including $250,000 from the LCC Board of Education.
