December 2004 Highlights

INSURANCE OVERCHARGES will be reimbursed to Lane and local school districts by the Marsh USA brokerage firm. The firm announced the over-billings and reimbursement plan.

PROGRAM ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP for nearly 600 people from local businesses, organizations and the college was approved by unanimous vote at the December 8 Board of Education meeting. Community members volunteer their time and expertise on the 45 committees to help Lane stay responsive to workforce needs.

THE 14TH ANNUAL NATIVE AMERICAN POWWOW marked the retirement of event founder Frank Merrill and ushered in successor James Florendo. Lane serves more Native American students than any other Oregon community college. Enrollment grew from about 50 to 607 students during Merrill's leadership.

KLCC added frequency KMPQ 88.1 FM to improve service to Roseburg listeners, with help from Douglas County fundraisers and in collaboration with Jefferson Public Radio. The old frequency at 88.5 FM now is used by a religious station. The KLCC family of stations includes KLCC 89.7 FM Eugene; KLCO 90.5 FM Newport; KLFO 88.1 FM Florence; KLFR 89.1 FM Reedsport; and KMPQ 88.1 FM Roseburg.

PATTY HAMMONS was named Outstanding Classified Employee of the Month for December. She is an instructional specialist in the Listening and Testing Lab for English, Foreign Language and Speech. She first joined Lane as a timesheet employee and then began fulltime in 1982.
