ASLCC OBSERVED CONSTITUTION DAY October 5 with workshops, discussions, guest speakers, and more.

CULINARY STUDENTS HELD A CAJUN BUFFET October 7 to benefit their community college peers displaced by hurricanes in the Gulf coast states. Proceeds were given to the American Culinary Federation to distribute the monies.

ARCHIVES ANNOUNCED FUNDING October 6 from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission to process many of the college's historical records. The grant will fund a processing archivist who will help the college archivist arrange, describe and prepare finding aids for records from the president's and vice presidents' offices. The finding aids will be encoded and submitted to the Northwest Digital Archives database. Lane's entries will be the first collections from a community college on this database.

OREGON'S FIRST ART-O-MAT was installed in the Lane Community College Art Gallery October 10. The retired cigarette vending machine dispenses original works of art for $5 each. Art pieces range from ceramics to paintings to sculptures to miniature books and more. Lane's Art-o-mat is one of 80 throughout the nation and is the creation of artist Clark Whittington of North Carolina. Visit the Art-o-mat in the Art Gallery, Building 11, main campus.

30TH AND GONYEA ROAD INTERCHANGE FEEDBACK was requested October 10 via an all-staff e-mail, and communications to Lane Weekly and Torch, from the Facilities office. The college seeks feedback on the safety of the interchange to determine if further safety improvements should be requested of the county.

PRESIDENT MARY SPILDE was named to the League of Women Voters of Lane County Advisory Board. The LWV is a nonpartisan organization that encourages informed and active participation in government and works to increase understanding of major public policy issues.

KLCC RAISED $271,010 during Fall Radiothon, completed October 13, a record amount in Radiothon history, but short of the $277,000 goal. Two-thirds of KLCC's budget comes from listeners and local businesses.

KLCC IMPROVED SERVICE to Central Oregon with new station KLBR 88.1 FM which reaches Bend, Redmond, Sisters, and Sunriver. KLCC has approximately 9,100 listeners in Central Oregon; 326 are supporting members. The new signal will reach thousands more homes. The new service was confirmed October 24.

DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI for 2005/06 were honored at the Harvest Dinner on October 28, hosted by the Lane Community College Foundation. Honored were:

Jeanne Benson, community volunteer, retired after 20 years with the Pearl Buck Center and 15 years with Catholic Community Services. She supervised Lane interns at both organizations. She attended Lane in the late 1960s and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon in 1976.

Jerry Smith, City of Springfield chief of police. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1966-70, earned an associate degree at lane in 1972, bachelor's and master's degrees from the UO, and graduated from the FBI Academy. He won Springfield 's first International Rights Day Award for his diversity work. He teaches criminal justice at Lane and serves on the college's criminal justice advisory committee.

LuAnne Boettiger, staff development coordinator at McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center. She earned an associate degree in nursing at Lane in 1976, and a bachelor's and master's in nursing from Oregon Health Sciences University. She facilitates clinical internships for Lane students at McKenzie-Willamette, and serves on the college's nursing advisory committee.

Timothy Wahlberg, president of Evergreen International Aviation, which has an annual budget of $750 million and 4,500 employees worldwide. He served in Vietnam in the U. S. Army and earned an associate degree from Lane in 1969. He formerly worked as a mechanic with Evergreen Helicopter. He serves on the college's aviation technology advisory committee.
