KING RETAIL SOLUTIONS of Eugene was named Employer of the Year by the Cooperative Education Program at the annual advisory committee dinner. King was selected for its commitment to cooperative education by providing quality worksite learning opportunities for Lane students. The company has offered excellent co-op sites and has hired Lane graduates.
SPRING CONFERENCE shared the views of Dr. Ronald Takaki, who presented " America in a Different Mirror: Re-visioning Our Nation's Past," with faculty and staff. Staff also shared their personal histories at Lane and their visions for Lane's future.
DENTAL HYGIENE STUDENTS achieved a 100 percent pass rate on their Western Regional Examining Board anesthesia exam. Lane dental students have a long history of high-scoring pass rates on the exams.
AN AMERICAN INDIAN LANGUAGES sequence of courses was approved unanimously by the Board of Education at its April meeting. The endowed chair donation received last year will be used to fund a visiting scholar for AIL.
THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE MOMENT, the faculty-led journal of professional development and scholarship published by Lane, released its latest issue, exploring the theme of diversity and including the work of 25 authors, artists and scholars.
A 16TH CENTURY MANUSCRIPT was transferred to the Archives. The one leaf (two-page) manuscript is from a 16th century choir book containing portions of a Catholic Mass. It has five lines of Latin text and square music notations on red 5-line staves. A guide is available at www.lanecc.edu/archives/M006.html The manuscript is available for study.
CLIVE WANSTALL, chef instructor in the culinary arts program, earned Certified Executive Chef recognition from the American Culinary Federation. He is the second chef at Lane to receive CEC certification, following Food Services Coordinator Greg Winslow, who was certified last spring. Wanstall has taught culinary arts at Lane since 1999.
PATRICK LANNING was named Associate Vice President for Instruction. He was selected from six finalists following nationwide recruitment. He will oversee Arts; Language, Literature and Communication; Health, Physical Education and Athletics; Mathematics; Science; Social Science; Advanced Technology; Business; Computer Information Technology; and Family and Health Careers. He was interim AVPI since September 2004. He joined Lane in 1992, teaching health and physical education. He helped establish the Fitness Education Center and fitness training certificate and degree programs. He previously chaired Health, Physical Education and Athletics; Music, Dance and Theatre Arts; and Art and Applied Design.
VICKI DOUGHTY was named Classified Employee of the Month for April. A 30-year employee of Lane, she now is an information technician in Counseling and Advising.
