"COMMUNITY COLLEGES REMAIN A FAVORITE WITH OREGONIANS, holding steady at an 88 percent overall approval rating," according to the annual Oregon Progress Board’s Oregon Population Survey. For details, see http://www.oregon.gov/DAS/OPB/index.shtml.

THE 2006 EMPLOYEE CAMPAIGN won kudos for Lane from United Way for having the third highest dollar increase in giving. The college also was recognized as a Community Solutions Leader, with a 10 percent or greater increase in giving, and as a Helping Hand Award winner. Lane’s Loaned Executive, Susie Johnston of the Lane Board of Education, was recognized for outstanding contributions to the United Way campaign. More than 45 percent of Lane employees participated in the Employee Campaign, and pledged or gave more than $108,000.

LANE PREVIEW NIGHT on February 7 drew a record attendance of 1,300 high school students and their parents.

OREGON'S SMALL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT NETWORK was accredited by the Association of Small Business Development Centers under standards set by the Malcolm Baldrige Quality Program. The network is a partnership of the Small Business Administration, the Oregon Economic and Community Development Department, and Oregon community colleges and universities. TUITION WAS INCREASED to $73 per credit hour for resident students beginning summer term, in accordance with Board of Education policy to annually adjust tuition for inflation using the Higher Education Price Index. Nonresident tuition and noncredit rates also were increased.

FITNESS TRAINING STUDENTS placed first at the American College of Sports Medicine Northwest Chapter Student Quiz Bowl. Lane competed against 13 other colleges from the Northwest and was the only community college at the competition.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL won the NWAACC southern region title for the third time in a row, and the fourth in the last five years. The team then traveled to Kennewick, WA, March 1 - 4, and won their second consecutive NWAACC championship.

APPLIED SCIENTIFIC INSTRUMENTATION, Inc. was named 2007 Employer of the Year by the Cooperative Education Division. ASI is a maker of hardware and systems for microscope automation and imaging. Ten of its 15 employees are electronics technology graduates of Lane Community College who successfully completed co-op internships with the company. Lane will present the award at an event on April 24. Lane’s co-op program works with nearly 800 businesses and 2,000 students each year.
