The Writing Center
What is it? The Writing Center is a FREE SERVICE where qualified peer tutors assist Lane Community College students with ANY writing project.
Where is it? The Writing Center is on the fourth floor of the Center Building in Room 430.
When is it open? Summer term: Monday - Thursday 9:00 - 3:00 (campus closed on Fridays) Fall, Winter, and Spring terms: Monday - Thursday 9:00 - 4:30, and Friday 9:00 - 2:00.
Do I need to make an appointment? The Writing Center is a drop-in service, so plan ahead. It is easy to see a tutor:
- Print your name and the time you arrived on the sign-in sheet
- Bring a copy of your assignment
- Expect to spend up to 30 minutes with a tutor
What can I get help with? Tutors at the Writing Center can help with all stages of a writing project:
- Topic choice
- Thesis statement formulation
- Paragraph development
- Technical writing
- Sentence structure
- Scholarship essays
- Research writing
The Writing Center is an important support system for the students at Lane Community College. Tutors help students with all phases of the writing process—brainstorming ideas, developing a thesis, and discussing structure or grammar issues—while providing a safe haven for new or returning students who feel unfamiliar in the college setting. As a drop-in tutoring service, The Writing Center offers Lane students academic support as they gain confidence in their writing skills and move towards their educational goals.
