Juanita Benedicto: Pleased to meet you

decoration Pleased to Meet You

Somewhere in the Land of Enchantment. Must be summer...I've been working as a reference librarian at Lane Community College since February, 2004. I enjoy my work at the library very much and have quickly acclimated to such a friendly and invigorating environment. This job challenges me and allows me to take on new responsibilities on a frequent basis.

Previously, I had been at the University of Oregon where I worked as the Libraries System Web Coordinator. One of the projects I began and maintained for a couple of years while at UO was an E-zine for librarians, NewBreed Librarian. The endeavor allowed me to keep abreast of developments in librarianship, communicate and establish contacts with information professionals from all over the world, and provide librarians and information architects with alternative ways of looking at ideas and patterns in our profession.

I have many interests outside the library as well. Among them are running, reading, music and tarot. Running is my daily meditation and it allows me to imprint the place in which I live in my geographical psyche, an idea I gleaned from Gary Snyder. I love to read—as do many people I know—and am a logophile, a lover of words. I'm passionate about music, *especially* the music of Tom Waits. I'm always learning something new, picking up a new hobby or passion. Currently, it's astrology.

I completed the Massage Therapy program here at Lane in Spring 2008. I've been able to use massage as a vehicle to volunteer for the past three summers at a convent in Guanajuato, Mexico. I administered massage to the nuns and to women living in a shelter housed in the convent and helped out in an orphanage for girls that the nuns run.

This next school year, 2008-2009, I plan to take a year leave absence and work at Angel Notion in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Back home
