What is Summit?

Summit is the online library catalog for the Orbis Cascade Alliance, a library consortium composed of more than 36 public and private colleges, community colleges, and universities in the Pacific Northwest. Through Summit you can borrow over 28 million books, sound recordings, videos, and more.

Who can borrow?

Currently enrolled credit students and current or retired faculty and staff members.

Although Summit borrowing is not available to non-credit students, community borrowers or town patrons; our interlibrary loan service is available to these library users.

How do I know when an item is ready for pick up?

Regular items must be picked up within 7 calendar days after they are available at the Circulation Desk.

You will be notified by email when the item is available for pick up.

  • Check your record to verify your email address. Contact the Circulation Desk (541) 463-5273 if your email is not correct.
  • Email changes must be made through MyLane and will take up to two business days for your library record to change.
    • You may need to configure your email program to "trust" Summit emails.

Special items that only circulate for 6 days must be picked up within 3 days. Contact the Circulation Desk with any questions at (541) 463-5273.

How long can I check out items for?

  • Most items check out for 42 days
  • Special materials such as videotapes and sound recordings may be available for a 6 day or 42 day borrowing period if the owning library elects to make this option available.
  • Items are not renewable.
  • Each authorized user can have up to a combined total of 200 Summit requests or checked-out items at one time.

Where do I return items?

Materials borrowed through Summit can be returned to Lane's Library, the owning library, or any Alliance member library.

What if I'm late returning an item?

Can I visit and check out items from another member library?

Students, faculty, and staff who are currently enrolled or employed at Alliance institutions may have borrowing privileges when they visit other Alliance libraries. This "Visiting Patron" service includes borrowing materials from generally circulating collections and making Summit requests.

When you visit another Summit Library:

  • you will need to know your "L" number
  • have photo ID
  • you will need to sign into your Library account at the Library you are visiting. Please sign into your Library account before you go.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)

Who can request an ILL?

Interlibrary loan enables Lane students (credit and non-credit), faculty, and staff to obtain materials that are not available in the LCC Library.

What else do I need to know?

The lending library determines whether a particular item can be provided, what the cost will be, the length of time it is on loan, and the time it takes to process the request.

Regional agreements regulating interlibrary loan and federal copyright law also place limitations on the types of materials that may be borrowed, as well as the number of articles that can be requested from a particular journal.

Current books, materials in high demand, audiovisual materials, or rare books may be difficult or impossible to obtain.

Materials usually arrive within seven to ten days, but they may take as long as four weeks to arrive.

Note: Interlibrary loan requests will be filled through Summit for eligible borrowers. Summit borrowing is available to credit students, staff and faculty. If the borrower is not eligible for Summit privileges, or if the item is not available from Summit, the request will be filled through the interlibrary loan process. Please check the Lane catalog and the Summit catalog prior to making a request. If the material is checked out of Lane's Library, you may place a hold on the item by using Lane's "Hold This Item" button. Please feel free to call the circulation desk with any questions at (541) 463-5273.
