Why is the Library moving?
This summer, the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Center Building will begin a transformation into a new Library and Learning Commons. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by January 2016.
Where is the Library during Center Building construction?
The interim library is in Building 18, east entrance. At the new location we have all the services (Reference and Research Help, Circulation Services, and Computer Help Desk) from the old Library.
What are the hours in the new location?

Where I can return checked out items?
Ereaders, laptops, tablets, and other computer devices: must be returned to a staff member at the Computer Help Desk in Building 18.
Books and videos: please return short-term reserves (less than one day) directly to the Circulation Desk in Building 18. When the Library is closed, please use the orange drop box.
Books and videos can also be returned to any Summit library.

Course reserves are located at the Circulation Desk in Building 18.

How do I get research help from a librarian or contact a subject specialist?
Librarians are available in person at the Reference Desk in Building 18, by email, phone, or chat.
During construction, the best way to contact a specific librarian is by email.
Where is the Reference Desk located?
The Reference Desk is located in Building 18.
How can LCC faculty request library instruction?
Faculty can request instruction using the online Instruction Request Form.
Where will library instruction be located?
Library instruction will be available in three locations:
- Librarians can come to your class on campus. Please be sure to indicate where your class is located on your instruction request form and let us know if your classroom has a teaching station or is a smart classroom.
- For classes up to 20 students we will use the Library classroom in Building 18.
- For classes with more than 20 students, we will schedule library instruction in Building 2 (room number to be determined).
Study Spaces & Computer Access
Where can I use a computer for school work?
Some computers will be available for student use in the Library in Building 18. Additionally, laptops are available for check out.
Can I check out a laptop?
Where can I print and make photocopies?
You can print from computers and flash drives and use a photocopier in the Library in Building 18. Photocopiers are also available in Student Services Center (?) and Printing and Graphics.
Accessing Books, Videos, Magazines, and Newspapers in Print
Will books, DVDs, and other library material be available for check out?
Yes, part of the collection will be housed in Building 18 including Reference, Popular Fiction, Picture Books and Young Adult, Maps and Atlases, DVDs and ESL materials. Items not housed in Building 18 will be available by request through a paging system and retrieved twice daily from storage.
How can I browse the collection?
There are two ways to browse the collection online.
- Browse by topic
- Browse by call number
- First, identify a topic you want to browse and search the catalog by keyword. Find an item you like, and click on the title. Look at the full record, and click on the call number. You will see a list of books on either side of the call number you have chosen, essentially browsing the shelf.
How do I get books from library storage and how long will it take?
You can request a book from storage online. Once you find a book in the catalog, follow these instructions to request the book.
Books are retrieved from storage twice daily. You will be notified by email when your book is ready to be picked up from the Circulation Desk in Building 18.
Can I still use Summit and InterLibrary Loan (ILL)?
Yes. Both Summit and InterLibrary Loan are available.
Will you be adding to the collection while the construction is going on?
Yes. Librarians are still ordering new material for the Library.
Which library materials will be shelved in the interim library location?

How do I use ebooks?
The Library has thousands of ebooks. You can find ebooks by searching the Library catalog from the Library mainpage.
How can I access research databases?
Research databases and online encyclopedias are accessible as always, from the Library mainpage.
How can I watch streaming videos?
Streaming video is accessible from the Library mainpage.
Where is the Circulation Desk to check out books and other items?
The Circulation Desk is located in Building 18 close to the entrance.
Where can I pick up an item I requested on Summit?
Summit requests are available for pickup at the Circulation Desk in Building 18.
Where can I make photocopies, or send a fax?
There is a photocopier located in the Library in Building 18. Copies cost 10¢ per side.
There is a fax machine in Building 1 Room 206.
Where can I watch Telecourse materials?
Telecourse materials can be checked out of the Library and can be viewed at home or on any of the Library computers. Headphones are also available for check out.
Are there any new policies in the interim library location?
No, there are no new policies, but computer access may be limited. Current LCC students have priority access for academic use.
Are laptops, Kindles, and headphones available for checkout?
Yes. Laptops and Kindles can be checked out at the Computer Help Desk. Headphones are available to borrow at the Circulation Desk.
