CHEMISTRY 112 AND BIOLOGY 112
BioBonds:
Building Blocks
for your Body
This learning
community combines Chemistry for Health Occupations (CH 112) and Cell
Biology for Health Occupations (BI 112) into a foundational course for
students interested in pursuing the Anatomy and Physiology sequence at
LCC. Through a variety of laboratory, group, lecture, and
computer activities we will explore the life of the cell and the
molecules that compose it, thus preparing students for the study of
human organ systems that occurs in Human Anatomy and Physiology (BI
231, 232, 233). This learning community is the
prerequisite for Anatomy and Physiology I (BI 231).
Four sections of
this learning community are offered this term. Choose ONE PAIR:

WRITING 123 AND ENGLISH 257
Fat
Cats & Underdogs:
Work, Class, and the American Dream
Using the concept
of the "American Dream" to examine work, class, and social mobility, this
learning community offers a choice of courses that help students
appreciate the power of class to shape our individual lives and our
culture. A prevailing belief in America is that we are a
"classless" society. However, these courses explore ways that the
inequalities of class, ethnicity, race, and gender interrelate to
sustain the power and interests of economic elites. Although
courses are linked, each will be graded separately.
Register for both
CRN 41626, WR 123, MWF 10-11:20a, with CRN 41572, Eng 257, MWF 8:30-9:50a
Remember to input both CRN's on the same
registration screen!

Native Circles
This learning
community with a Native American flavor is organized around a "center"
course, College Success Native American Style, taught by Jerry
Hall. The "center" course is designed to help students with a
Native American viewpoint clarify college goals and design individual
programs to achieve those goals. It will also introduce students
to an "inner circle" of additional courses and instructors; a "middle
circle" of college programs; and an "outer circle" of elders and other
community contacts beyond campus. Once students have completed
the "center" course, they can continue to participate by enrolling in a
seminar and serving as peer advisors.
Class not available
for Advanced Registration.

POLITICAL SCIENCE 297 and BIOLOGY 103G and RELIGION 243
Reconnecting
with Nature: Science, Spirituality and Political Activism
Earth,
our home, is endangered. How can we help remedy this situation?
We, humankind, need to find a different relationship with the
rest of nature. To do this we need to educate ourselves as to
our true place within the living organism that is Earth. In this
Learning Community we will investigate the ecological balance
of our planet and the scientific evidence as to how we have upset
this balance. How have we harmed Earth’s ecosystems and
depleted her biodiversity? What are the potential results of
our actions? We will examine how different religious traditions
view the place of humanity within nature. What is our spiritual
connection with Earth, the home of all living and inanimate things?
The exploration of our scientific and spiritual contexts impels
us to examine the alternatives that can lead in a more positive
direction. What can we do to help heal our endangered planet?
Register for all three:
CRN 40237, BI 103G, MWF 10-11:50a with
CRN 40622, Rel 243, MW 3p-4:50p also with
CRN 40495, PS 297, MWF 1-2:20p
Remember to input all three CRN's on the same registration
