Question of the Week

WHY WAS GROUPWISE SOMETIMES NOT AVAILABLE OVER THE JULY 4TH WEEKEND?

The LCC Novell environment runs on an integrated collection of about two dozen file servers. In order to keep our Novell products (GroupWise for e-mail and calendaring, NetWare for file access, Zenworks for workstation maintenance) in optimal working condition we need to constantly repair, replace and upgrade the hardware and software on each of the servers in the system. With so many servers, it can take a long time to perform this routine maintenance. We try to schedule these interruptions for holiday weekends for two reasons: usage is low, and the long weekend gives us an extra day to complete all of our work. - Stephen F. Pruch, Associate Vice President for Information Technology
