Student and Staff Access Network (SSAN)
Information About Security and the Lane SSAN
Users are responsible for their own computer security when using the SSAN at Lane. The Student and Staff Access Network is NOT protected from the Internet by a firewall. You should take all reasonable measures such as anti-virus/anti-spyware software, personal firewall software and especially take these precautions:
- The SSAN is a shared network and any information transmitted is NOT encrypted by the network. Secure websites (https, SSL) may provide this service for users, but the SSAN and the Internet are not secure networks and should be used with appropriate safeguards. Lane Community College is not responsible for any loss of data or damage from the use of the SSAN.
- Do not, under any circumstances, leave portable computers, personal computing devices, or valuables unattended. Lane Community College is not responsible for lost or stolen property.
- It is your responsibility to keep your "L" number (Lane's User ID) and PIN number secure. You are accountable for network and Internet activity that was accessed using your account information. SSAN usage is logged and you are accountable for network and Internet activity that was accessed using your account information under the Lane Appropriate Use Policy and Student Code of Conduct.
