College-Level Examination Program and Advanced Placement

Students may take exams on many college subjects through the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) and receive credit for satisfactory scores in both general areas and various other specific subject areas. The credit Lane grants also is granted at most four-year colleges and universities. These credits do not appear on the Lane transcript. Testing Services has current information regarding how and where a person may take CLEP examinations. Lane accepts the following general examinations: social sciences/history, natural sciences, and humanities (arts and letters). Lane also accepts the following subject examinations: American History I and II, American Literature, Biology, Calculus with Elementary Functions, Chemistry (General), English Literature, French, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Spanish, and Sociology.

Contact the Enrollment Services/Student Records Office for more information. Students who have earned credit through the Advanced Placement (AP) program, usually through advanced high school courses, may receive credit for satisfactory scores. You need to provide Lane with an official report. To order a report, contact the College Board/Advanced Placement at 1-888-CALL-4-AP. There is more information on Lane’s website on scores and exams for both CLEP and AP.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Veterans - Lane Community College grants some credit for Military Educational Experience upon review of the recommendations made by the American Council on Education and as the information applies to LANE's curriculum. Veterans who do not have an AARTS, SMART, ACE Report but do have a DD214 may in some cases use the information for Physical Education credit. The DD214 will be transcribed by an evaluator and used as Credit by Assessment. In general Basic Training, MOS, DANTES, ACT-PEP or SATs are not used for credit at LANE. DANTES or a DD295 might be considered by Professional/Technical Programs on an individual base using Credit by Assessment. Other items considered are the Defense Language Institute and the Community College of the Air Force, official reports are required.

LANE in general does not use course work at a 300 level and above for our 100-200 courses unless the course work a substantial match to a 100-299 course or approved by the sponsoring department. Students should keep in mind that some 300-400 level courses used to meet a degree requirement at LANE may not be considered for use by a four-year college once they transfer. The use or not of these courses is up to the college you will be transferring to. Many schools consider the second use of these courses as "double dipping." In other words, if a course or courses were used to meet a two-year degree, such as the AAOT, whereby placing you at a junior standing at a four-year school, the school may not allow you to use the course a second time to meet a graduate requirement.

Lane Community College is reviewing the credit offering of some courses. This process entails the change of some course credit values from 3 to 4 credits. There may be change to some of the credits and some of the course number assignments based on this change before the next update of this material. For example, World History may become HST104, 105 or HST105, 106 for 8 credits rather than HST104, 105, 106 (three classes) at 9 credits.

NOTE: While every effort is made to ensure its accuracy, this catalog is not an irrevocable contract. Lane Community College reserves the right to change provisions or requirements, and students are advised to study the quarterly class schedules and to work closely with a counselor/advisor.
