ASSESSMENT TESTING SPECIALIST
#2001

General Characteristics:
An Assessment/Testing Specialist is responsible for test administration and scoring, providing general information to students, staff and the general public on College degree and program requirements, evaluation of transcripts from other institutions and/or for referral and scheduling of students with appropriate counselor, advisor, medical staff, support service or department for resolution of specific problems; performs data entry and other clerical tasks related to the area of assignment; may provide ongoing computer technology support; does related work as required. Work requires judgment, organizational and verbal skills to understand students' needs, provide information and make referrals. Working conditions may include exposure to emotionally unstable individuals and require interpersonal skill to calm the individual until assistance is available. Working conditions may include potential exposure to body fluids.

Examples of Work:
Discusses students' identified educational and career goals and determines the appropriate test or tests to give; gives and scores a variety of tests on a group or individual basis; distributes scores to appropriate persons; discusses test scores and course scheduling options; assists disabled students with test
taking; records students' tests and other classroom materials.

Provides general information to students, staff and the public on College, degree and program requirements, resources available, Veteran's Administration (VA) benefits, scholarships, counseling schedules, testing policies and procedures and. student orientation; answers questions regarding published program requirements; collects, maintains and disperses scholarship information; assists students with scheduling and registration; interviews and registers senior volunteers; assists veterans by typing forms for enrollment in Veteran's educational benefits program.

Evaluates transcripts from accredited colleges and universities for transfer of credit to College credit programs based upon written guidelines; enters data into computer database; determines appropriate match of College courses to courses at other colleges; converts semester hour credits to quarter hours using appropriate formula; copies transcripts per request; advises students of necessary courses for major and rules governing use of Veteran's benefits; audits students transcripts for compliance with regulations; notifies VA of enrollment changes; updates Veteran's status codes on database.

Inputs testing records into computer database and assists in testing follow-up research: provides scoring, runs packaged item-analysis reports and provides questionnaire processing services for staff; maintains testing records. Coordinates and maintains appointment system for medical staff or counselors; provides initial contact, assesses the immediacy and type of need and makes appropriate emergency referrals to medical staff or counselors.
 
Provides student attendance and grade records to local high schools; tracks compliance with Oregon Alternative Education Act and other state regulations; performs various clerical tasks related to the area of assignment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of and skill in the operation of office machines including typewriter, microcomputer, calculator, scoring machine, VCR and microfiche reader; knowledge of federal, State and institutional rules,, policies ',and procedures as they relate to specific area of assignment; skill in working under stress; skill in human relations and the assessment of the severity of an individual's emotional and/or physical state; skill in performing basic arithmetic computations; skill in accurate and efficient data entry; skill in compiling data and generating reports from computerized databases; ability to keep accurate records and maintain confidentiality; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to work with persons with a wide range of disabilities; ability to use active listening techniques; ability to communicate information to students from varied ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds; ability to discuss test results and cut off scores; ability to learn to appropriately match courses from other educational institutions to College and ABE high school courses; ability to learn the policies and procedures relating to each test given; ability to learn College programs, policies and information sources; ability to work independently; ability to work safely.

Supervision:
Reports to and works under the general supervision of a department chair or other supervisor. A lead worker may train, assign work, provide priorities and be available to troubleshoot problems on a daily basis. Detailed guidelines and instructions are provided in the form of procedures manuals and/or program requirements. General daily routines are performed independently according to these guidelines. Work is reviewed for the quality of services provided to students and/or community volunteers.

This position may be responsible to assign tasks, provide priorities, train and monitor the work of student assistants, hourly employees and volunteers.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduation or equivalent is required. one year of experience in a general office environment, which included considerable public contact, is required. Experience in a community college setting is preferred. Some positions may require typing 45 words per minute.

Equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered qualifying.
