What you’ll learn

Nutrition at Lane develops students’ nutrition science literacy skills and is an area of knowledge and skills development leading to career readiness in nutrition, health sciences, and dietetics.

Transfer Interest Area

Explore how nutrients, food, and dietary patterns affect human health. Build a working knowledge of food sources, functions, requirements, digestion, absorption, and metabolism of nutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, and water). Develop skills for improving dietary habits and evaluating the evidence base and validity of nutrition information.

AFTER LANE

Earning a transfer degree from Lane prepares you to complete your undergraduate or graduate degree in Nutrition and Health Sciences or Dietetics (Oregon State University offers the only accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics in Oregon).

After completing a dietetics option, you’ll be eligible to enter an accredited master's dietetic internship program which leads to eligibility to take the credentialing exam to become a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RD/RDN).

    Career Options in the Nutrition Field:

    • Hospitals, clinics, long-term care, or other healthcare facilities providing medical nutrition therapy.
    • Sports teams, providing education and nutrition planning.
    • Food and nutrition-related companies and industries, such as grocery stores and food and supplement companies, working in communications, marketing, public relations, product development, research, or consulting.
    • Government agencies, administering federal food programs such as Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
    • Private practice, providing individual nutrition guidance.
    • Community and public health settings, teaching and advising people about healthy eating habits.
    • Universities and medical centers, teaching students about nutrition or working as part of research teams.
