Former Lane Community College and Siuslaw High basketball standout Kammy Martindale has signed a letter of intent to play for Regis University, Titans coach Greg Sheley said on Monday. Martindale averaged a team-high 16.5 points for Lane this season and helped lead the Titans to back-to-back NWAACC championships in her two seasons. The shooting guard also set the Lane record for three-pointers in a season this year with 68. Regis, a Division II school in Denver, was the Rocky Mountain Conference champion this past season and ranked 17th in the nation.

For the second consecutive year, Lane's Greg Sheley's has been named the NWAACC Women's Basketball Coach of the Year. Sheley led his Titans to their second consecutive NWAACC Championship. The Titans finished the 2006-07 Season 29-4 and won their third-consecutive Southern Region title. Sheley has been coaching at Lane CC since 1999. He will be honored at the NWAACC's Hall of Fame Banquet being held May 31st in Bellevue, WA.

KENNEWICK, WASH- The Lane Titans led the 2007 NWAACC Championship game from start to finish. The tournament's Most Valuable Player, Mercedes Alexander of Lane proved her value by scoring 10 of Lane's first 16 points. That great start built an eight point advantage from which Bellevue would never recover. The Titans had an eleven point lead with five minutes remaining on the clock and nine points at halftime. After the half, Bellevue went on a run to cut the lead and tie the game 40-40 with 15:10 left to play. That run took all that Bellevue had left and Lane responded to build an 11 point lead. Lane won the game off second chance points out rebounding Bellevue 21-9 on the offensive board. The offensive rebounds led to 18 second-chance points. For Bellevue, Luv Rattler led the Bulldogs with 18 points. Latrina Woods had 17 points. The Bulldogs finish the season 26-5. Their second place at the NWAACC Tournament is Bellevue's best finish in 13 tournament appearances. Lane wins their second consecutive title and finish the season 29-4. Lane's Sheri Gates wins her second NWAACC title. Gates was a member of the 1997 Umpqua team that won the NWAACC Championship. At the time she was Sherri Nowak. ALBANY - The Roadrunners put up a roadblock on the Titans' run through the conference schedule. The Lane women's basketball team, ranked No. 1 in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges, surrendered its first loss in Southern Region play, falling 79-70 at Linn-Benton on Wednesday night. The Roadrunners are the only team to have beaten the Titans in Lane's last 13 games, winning 84-83 in a nonconference game Dec. 29. After that, Lane rattled off 11 straight victories before running into Linn-Benton again. The Titans, who face another tough challenge on the road when they play at Clackamas on Saturday, fell to 11-1 in conference play and 23-4 overall, but coach Greg Sheley was pacified by his team's effort on Wednesday. "We've been battling illness and the kids played really hard, so I was happy with that," he said. Shelby Stephens, a sophomore from Willamette High, had 25 points and 14 rebounds, and freshman Mercedes Alexander, from Churchill, added 11 points and 14 rebounds for the Titans, who got within three points in the final minute but were held off as the Roadrunners went 5-for-7 at the foul line in the last 40 seconds. Whitney Bryant and Molly Firllion scored 19 apiece for Linn-Benton (9-3).

Mercedes Alexander and Shelby Stephens combined for 38 points and 23 rebounds Saturday to lead Lane Community College to an 81-48 victory over Mount Hood Community College in NWAACC women's basketball. Alexander scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while Stephens scored 17 points and nabbed 10 boards for the Titans (23-3, 11-0 Southern Region), who won their 53rd consecutive home game and 11th in a row overall.

SALEM - Chemeketa Community College missed two chances in the final seven seconds Saturday as Lane Community College pulled out a 53-51 victory in women's NWAACC basketball. Kammy Martindale scored 24 points, and Mercedes Alexander added 12 points and 16 rebounds for the Titans (19-3, 7-0).

Kammy Martindale scored 17 points, and Nicole Morgan and Shelby Stephens added 12 each in Lane Community College's 63-55 victory over Linn-Benton in an NWAACC women's basketball game Wednesday night. The Titans (18-3, 5-0 Southern Region) overcame a cold shooting night from the floor (29.4 percent) by outscoring the Roadrunners 19-4 from the free-throw line. Lane also had 20 steals to Linn-Benton's nine and led 33-10 in points off turnovers. The victory was the Titans' 51st straight at home.

PORTLAND - Lane Community College stayed unbeaten in NWAACC Southern Region games Sunday with a 63-58 victory over Portland Community College. Shelby Stephens had 17 points, Kammy Martindale had 16, Natisa Reynolds had 11 and Mercedes Alexander added seven points and 12 rebounds for the Titans (17-3, 5-0), who play host to Linn-Benton Community College at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Krystal Saling's 17 points led Portland.

The Titans (16-3, 4-0) held a 38-36 advantage at the half, but hit 50 percent from the field (13-of-26) in the second half to put the game away to remain in first place in the South Region. Rachel Copeland scored 18 points to lead the Cougars.

GRESHAM - Mercedes Alexander and Shelby Stephens recorded double-doubles to lead Lane Community College to a 74-71 women's basketball win over Mount Hood on Saturday. Alexander scored 18 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, and Stephens added 15 points and 11 boards for the Titans (15-3, 3-0 NWAACC South Region). Kammy Martindale also had 15 points for Lane. Sammie Nordstrom led all scorers with 22 points for the Saints.

Natisia Reynolds scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Nicole Morgan and Shelby Stephens added 22 points each to lead Lane Community College to a 127-60 victory Wednesday over Southwestern Oregon in NWAACC women's basketball. The Titans shot 57.6 percent from the field for the game with six players in double figures. Mercedes Alexander scored 16 points, Sheri Gatos 14 and Valarie Meyer 13. Lane capitalized on 32 turnovers by the Lakers. Calie McViker had seven of Lane's 23 steals. The Titans hit seven three-pointers in the first half on their way to a 68-23 lead.

The Lane Community College women's basketball team won the championship game of the Everett Tournament in Everett, Wash., on Sunday, beating the host team 79-73 in overtime. Kammi Martindale had a game-high 23 points to go with eight rebounds and finished as tournament MVP for the Titans (6-0). Mercedes Alexander added six points and 18 rebounds, Valerie Meyer had 15 points and eight assists. Both were named all-tournament.

Greg Sheley , Head Coach Sheley has turned the Titan program into one of the dominant teams in the very competitive Southern Region. His four consecutive trips to the NWAACC Championship Tournament and ten tournament wins rank him first on the school's coaching list. Sheley was named Lane's fifth head basketball coach in the summer of 1999. Prior to Lane, Greg coached at Butte College in Oroville, CA (1992-98). While at Butte, his program won three conference championships, made it to the State Championship tournament twice, had two 30 win seasons, and compiled a 161-67 record (.706). During his college playing days, Sheley earned basketball and baseball letters and was twice selected to the all conference teams at Sierra Junior College before continuing his athletic career at California State University-Chico, where he was a guard/wing for the Wildcat's basketball team. Sheley graduated from CSU-Chico with a BA in Physical Education in 1990 and later returned to receive his MA in 1995. Greg was born December 8, 1966 in Chico, CA. Raised in Chico he was a high school standout in basketball and baseball at Chico High School. His wife, Sharrie, also works at Lane as a health instructor. They have two children: Kerrisa (9), and Kaylin (5).

Kevin Grumbley, Assistant Coach Kevin Grumbley is entering his eighth season with the Titan's program. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education with a minor in Business Management from Western Oregon University. Kevin's primary coaching responsibilities include: recruiting, on the floor coaching, and working with the forwards and centers. Grumbley, 31, enters his 11th season as a basketball coach. He entered the field of coaching at age 18 following a successful career as a high school athlete. During the off-season he spends time coaching for Willamette Valley Basketball Academy, which is made up off High School aged players from the Willamette Valley area. His teams play in tournaments throughout the United States.
