Busch, who transferred from Saint Mary’s at the end of last season, averaged 7.3 points, three rebounds and three assists in one season at Lane. The Eugene native was previously a standout player at Marist High School.
- Lady Owls Land Two Lane CC Transfers -www.oit.edu: March 12, 2008
KLAMATH FALLS, Oregon (March 12, 2008)—Lane Community College transfers Nicole Morgan and Lisa Busch have signed letters of intent to join the Lady Owl basketball team for the 2008-09 season, announced today by head coach Matt Greenleaf. Morgan, a 5’7” guard from Port Angeles, WA. played her prep career at Port Angeles High School prior to her two seasons at Lane CC. Morgan was a 2nd team All-Narrows League selection and a two time team MVP at Port Angeles HS. At Lane, Morgan was a 2nd team All-NWAACC selection, played in the SE Region All-Star game and was also an NWAACC All-Academic selection, averaging 10.1ppg, 5.0rpg, 3apg and 2.5 steals. In her two seasons, Morgan led the Lane Titans to 57 wins and an NWAACC Championship in 2006, along with a 3rd place finish in 2007. Busch, a 5’7” guard from Eugene, led her Marist High School squad to four straight OSAA playoff appearances and three Sky-Em League titles, while also an All Sky-Em selection at MHS. Busch spent one year at Division I St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA before returning to Lane CC for her sophomore season, where she averaged 7.3ppg, 3rpg and 3 assists for the Titans. “I am very pleased that both Nicole and Lisa chose Oregon Tech to continue their athletics and education” said head coach Matt Greenleaf “Nicole is such a versatile player and can play four different positions on the floor. She’s a scorer and has great anticipation on the defensive end and knows how to compete and win at the college level”. Greenleaf continues “Lisa Busch is a good defender that will fit into our system very well. She also shoots the ball at a high percentage from the perimeter, which is a void we needed to fill. She will also bring Division I experience to our team next season and coming from Lane, knows what it takes to win at the collegiate level.”
- Alexander leads Titans' to third-place finish -The Eugene Register Guard: March
3, 2008
KENNEWICK, Wash. — The Lane Community College women’s basketball team rebounded from Saturday’s loss to Spokane with a 63-58 victory in the third-place game at the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges tournament.
The Titans, who won the previous two NWAACC titles, finished their season with a 29-4 record. Lane overcame a tough 59-55 loss the night before, as well as the loss of starting point guard Nicole Morgan, who broke her ankle with two minutes left in Saturday’s game after landing on another player’s foot while battling for a rebound. “It was nice to get the win, just for the fact that everyone was disappointed we weren’t in the championship game and we were able to rebound,” LCC coach Greg Sheley said. “We finished pretty strong and on a high note, so that makes a little consolation."
Sophomore forward Mercedes Alexander helped pick up the slack at point guard, spending time at all five positions during the game. She finished with 24 points and 12 rebounds in her final game for LCC.
Sheena Cole came off the bench to score 14 points, and Stephanie Stephens also scored 14.

Walla Warriors 58 -The NWAACC'S: March 2, 2008
After Saturday's brutal battle against Columbia Basin, a battered Warrior
team took to the court against the winningest team in the regular season
without Eastern region all-star, Layne Tucker, who exited the game yesterday
with a broken finger, and starter Allie Dreadfulwater, who left the
same game with an injured knee. However, Warrior Sydney Gossard stepped
up, keeping the team close with a series of three-pointers and the team
headed into hafltime down by one and even garnered a lead of 5 in the
early minutes of the second part of the game. South MVP, Titan
Mercedes Alexander, showed why she's earned the honor by keeping her
team in the game, making key shots and putting Lane up for the first
time in 15 minutes with under two to play. With a Lane leading
57-55, Gossard turned the ball over to the Titans. Her subsequent foul
on Sheena Cole’s successful drive to the basket put
Cole on the line. Although she missed her free throw, the Titans recovered
the ball and Alexander offered a hook to put Lane up 61-55 with under
a minute to play. Brittanie Toone responded with a nothing but
'net three from the top of the key, putting the Warriors back in striking
distance with a score of 61-58. On the other end of the court,
Toone fouled Stephanie Stephens who made her shots to extend the lead
to 63-58 with 17 seconds to play. With the ball back in the Warrior
hands, Toone tried again for the three, but the ball swished under the
net and the Titans reclaimed the ball and the win. Alexander lead
the victorious Titans in scoring and rebounds with 24 points and 12
boards. She was supported by all-star teammate Stephanie Stephens and
Sheena Cole's additional 14 points each. For the Warriors, Eastern
all-star Katie Strunk lead the charge with 16 points and 14 rebounds.
Toone added 13 and Goassard contributed 12. The Lane Titans win
3rd place in the 2008 NWAACC Basketball Championship game with a score
of 63-58 over the Walla Walla Warriors, completing their season 29-4.
The Warriors end their season 23-8 and with 6th place in the NWAACC
tournament.
- Sasquatch deny Lane shot at NWAACC championship
-The Eugene Register Guard: March 2, 2008
KENNEWICK, Wash. — Stephanie Stephens had 21 points and seven
rebounds and Mercedes Alexander added 16 points and eight rebounds for
the Lane women in a 59-55 loss to Spokane in the Northwest Athletic
Association of Community Colleges tournament semifinals on Saturday.
The Sasquatch broke a 50-50 tie with less than three minutes to play
and held on to face Columbia Basin today for the NWAACC championship.
The difference came at the three-point line, where Spokane was 8-for-23
to just 3-for-17 for Lane. The Titans (28-4) will play Walla Walla
at 2 p.m. today for third place.
- Semifinal: Spokane Sasquatch 59, Lane Titans
55 -The NWAACC'S: March
1, 2008
The battle between the Sasquatch and the Titans was fought a tooth-and-nail
as each team worked to secure their role in the 2008 NWAACC Championship
game. Supported by a vocal crowd, the Sasquatch garnered an early lead
over the defending champions. However, an early lead means nothing if
you can't hold onto it and with ten minutes remaining in the game, the
Titans had returned to striking distance. With less than three minutes
to play, the score was tied up at 50. Two quick baskets by the Sasquash,
including one from Liz Beardslee, tuned the game into a 54-50 score.
After a failed shot by the Titans, Mercedes Alexander proved her South
MVP mettle by stealing the ball right out of a Sasquatch player's hands
for a layup to bring the game to 54-52. After an official's time out
for an injured all-star Titan Nicole Morgan, 'Squash's Beardslee ran
it up the middle for two points in the paint and a score of 56-54. A
foul by Titan Jennifer Kimbrow sent the game back down the court and
'Squash Richelle Daily sunk her free throw shots for two, making it
a 4 point game with under thirty to play. A round of fouls added a point
for each side, but the gap remained. Spokane defeats Lane 59-55.
Titan all-stars Stephanie Stephens and Nicole Morgan had 21 and 10 points,
respectively. Alexander contributed 16. Spokane high scorers included
Kellee Neal with 15, Beardslee with 14 and Daily with 11. Spokane
will see the winner of tonight's 8 p.m. match-up between Walla Walla
and Columbia River Basin tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. as they try to become
the 2008 NWAACC Basketball Champions. Lane will see the loser of the
same challenge at 2 p.m. in hopes of securing third place.

- Titans' streak on the line against No. 2 Umpqua
-The Eugene Register Guard: January 16, 2008
The Lane Community College women's basketball team hasn't been tested
very often during its 57-game home winning streak. That shouldn't be
the case tonight. The Titans (15-3), ranked fifth in the Northwest Athletic
Association of Community Colleges, will host No. 2 Umpqua Community
College at 5:30 in a matchup of Southern Region rivals who are both
3-0 in league play. "It's been a while since we've had such a big game
this early in the season," said Lane coach Greg Sheley, whose team has
won the past two conference championships and three straight regional
crowns. To get to the top of the conference, however, the Titans first
had to conquer Umpqua (17-1), a program that ruled the Southern Region
when Sheley arrived at Lane in 1999. Now it's the Timberwomen who have
to get past Lane. "Maybe they're thinking that, maybe they're not,"
Sheley said. "But right now, they're ranked ahead of us so who knows?"
Umpqua, which is in Roseburg, won the NWAACC title in 2000 and posted
its only non-20-win season under coach Dave Stricklin last year when
the Timberwomen went 11-17. But Umpqua has rebounded this season, going
undefeated against NWAACC competition. Its only loss is to a junior
college team from Utah on Dec. 1. "We believe they're our biggest competition
in the Southern Region," Sheley said. "This would give us a big leg
up. Plus we're at home." Lane has made it free of charge to attend the
game tonight, hoping to draw a large, supportive crowd. "We have to
play harder than them," Sheley said. "They're playing very physical,
hard basketball and we're going to have to match their intensity." The
Lane men (10-8, 1-2) will host No. 8 Umpqua (13-4, 3-0) tonight at 7:30.

Greg Sheley , Head Coach
Coach Greg Sheley will have the unique opportunity to lead his team into
the season as the "two-time" defending NWAACC champions, a statement very
few people have been able to make. Sheley has built the Titans program
in his own image. His teams play aggressive, up-tempo basketball on offense,
hardnosed man-to-man defense. Lane players have excelled in the classroom,
in the community, and on the floor. The record of the program under Sheley's
leadership speaks volumes: 187 wins, the most wins by a Titan basketball
coach; seven straight 20-win seasons; four Southern Region Titles (in
the past five years); the school's first ever consecutive 30 win seasons
04-05 and 05-06; and six straight NWAACC Tournament appearances which
includes two straight NWAACC Championships. If all that isn't enough,
the teams current 63 straight home game-winning streak is one of the longest
in the nation (at any level) and the team holds an astonishing 93-7 record
over the last 100 games played. Sheley was named Lane's fifth head basketball
coach in the summer of 1999. Prior to Lane, Greg coached at Butte College
in Oroville, CA (1992-98) where he had already established himself as
one of the best young coaches in the game. While at Butte, his programs
won three conference championships, made it to the State Championship
tournament twice, had two 30 win seasons, and compiled a 161-67 record
(.706). During his college playing days, Sheley earned basketball and
baseball letters and was twice selected to the all conference teams at
Sierra Junior College before continuing his athletic career at California
State University-Chico, where he was a guard/wing for the Wildcat's basketball
team. Sheley graduated from CSU-Chico with a BA in Physical Education
in 1990 and later returned to receive his MA in 1995. Greg was born December
8, 1966 in Chico, CA. Raised in Chico he was a high school standout in
basketball and baseball at Chico High School. His wife, Sharrie, also
works at Lane as a health instructor. They have three children: Kerrisa
(10), Kaylin (6), and Nathan (6 months).

Kevin Grumbley, Assistant Coach
Born and raised locally, nobody has a better grasp of the high school
basketball scene than Kevin Grumbley. You can't win if you don't have
the right players, and for nearly nine years now it has been Kevin's job
to assess and recruit talented players with the right skill sets to assure
the Titans continue their winning ways. In addition to recruiting, Kevin
works with the Titan forwards and centers. In 2003 Kevin received his
Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education with a minor in Business Management
from Western Oregon University. Grumbley, 32, enters his 12th season as
a basketball coach. He entered the field of coaching at age 18 following
a successful career as a high school athlete. During the 1994 season he
was the 8th grade boys coach at North Douglas Middle School. During the
1996-1997, and 1997-1998 seasons he was Head Junior Varsity Girl's Basketball
Coach for North Douglas High School. His teams compiled an impressive
combined mark of 30 wins and 9 losses. Both North Douglas teams finished
second in their league standings. Before joining Coach Sheley's staff
in the fall of 1999, he was the Head Varsity Volleyball Coach at Yoncalla
High School. He also helped out with the North Douglas Track & Field
program, coaching his younger brother to a State Championship in the long
jump. Kevin has coached with AAU teams and worked several different camps
and clinics including the U of O Girls camp and Lane Community College
Girls camp. During this past summer Kevin's AAU team captured a first
place trophy in the open division of the Oregon City Shootout.
