  • Bates, Burbank take NWAACC multi-event titles -The Eugene Register Guard: April 30, 2008
    GRESHAM — Danica Bates won the heptathlon and Bruce Burbank won the decathlon to give Lane Community College a sweep of the NWAACC Multi-Event titles at Mount Hood Community College on Tuesday. Bates went 16 feet, 7 inches in the long jump to extend her lead and then followed with a mark of 109-2 in the javelin, also the best mark of the day, to cruise to the heptathlon title, finishing with 4,232 points. Amber Glunt of Mount Hood was second at 3,889. Lane’s Kayla Swingle was ninth with 3,209 points. In the decathlon, Burbank had the top mark in the field in the pole vault (12-11) and won the 1,500 in 4 minutes, 33.2 seconds to edge Jon Gobel of Clackamas with 6,103 points. Gobel finished with 6,079 points. Lane’s Cyrus Hostetler finished fourth with 5,919 points and topped the field in the javelin with a mark of 193-3. Lane’s Jeff Hester finished fifth with 5,789 points.
  • 2008 NWAACC Decathlon/Heptathlon Championships - Day 1 -The NWAACCS: April 28, 2008
    Bruce Burbank of Lane Community College and Brooklyn Holton of Clark College lead the field after day one of the 2008 NWAACC Decathlon and Heptathlon. The first five decathlon events and four heptathlon events were held today at Mt. Hood Community College and the final events will continue on Tuesday at 9am.  Burbank took the long jump event with a 21' 2.75" leap and finished second in the high jump at 6' 1.5" and the shot put with a 38' 2.75" throw. Burbank holds a narrow 19 point lead over Clackamas' Joe Gobel, who took first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.38 seconds and second in the 100 meter dash and the Long Jump events.  Holton also holds a slim 28 point lead in the Heptathlon over Lane's Danica Bates after four events. Holton took the high jump with leap of 5' 1.25" while Bates took the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.28 seconds and the shot put with a throw of 34' 2.75".

  • Lane's Martin wins three events at Shasta Invite l -The Eugene Register Guard: April 20, 2008
    REDDING, Calif. -Lane's Jewell Martin won the 100 and 200 meters and the 100-meter hurdles at the Shasta College Invitational track and field meet on Saturday. Martin won the 100 in 12.78 seconds, the 200 in 26.94 and the hurdles in 15.10. Other winners for the Titan women were Jolena Boatsman in the pole vault (11 feet) and Amy Nelson in the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.32). For the LCC men in the field events, the winners were Cyrus Hostetler (javelin, 206-3), Adam Brink (pole vault, 15-6), Billy Wills (shot put, 47-2), Tyler Lindgren (hammer throw, 165-8) and Seth Lindquist (triple jump, 44-5). Winners on the track were David Morgan (10,000, 33:09.78) and Dennis Olstedt (intermediate hurdles, 55.50).
  • Brink sails over LCC record in pole vault victory -The Eugene Register Guard: April 13, 2008
    SPOKANE — Adam Brink broke Lane Community College’s record in the pole vault Saturday to highlight the Titans’ second-place finishe in the Albertsons-Indian Trail Invitational. Brink cleared 16 feet, 5½ inches to beat the mark of 16-5 set by Keegan Burnett in 2006. Andrew Hastings won the 200 meters and 400 for the Titan men, who got wins in the 1,500 from Jeremy McAllister and the 5,000 from David Morgan while scoring 210½ points. Community College of Spokane won with 279½. Spokane won the women’s meet with 247 points. Lane, which got victories from Jewel Martin in the 100 hurdles and Danica Bates in the 400 hurdles, scored 173½.

  • Hostetler sets LCC record in men's javelin -The Eugene Register Guard: April 6, 2008
    MSalem-Cyrus Hostetler set a Lane Community College men's javelin record with an effort of 217 feet, 6 inches to win the Willamette University Invitational on Saturday.  Hostetler's mark broke the previous record of 214-2.   LCC's Adam Brink cleared 14-11 to win the pole vault and Sam Helland was second with a mark of 14-0.  In the women's events, Lane's Jewel Martin finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.70, and teammate Crystal Bradford was fifth in 15.27.
  • Lane men, women shine at Saints Open track meet -The Eugene Register Guard: March 9, 2008
    GRESHAM — Robbie Fegles and Sam Helland went 1-2 in the men’s pole vault, and Jewel Martin and Amy Nelson did the same in the women’s 100-meter hurdles to highlight Lane Community College’s performance at the Saints Open track and field meet at Mt. Hood Community College on Saturday. Fegles won with a vault of 15 feet, 6 inches and Helland tied for second at 15-0 for the Titans, who swept the top two spots in the men’s high jump behind Jeff Hester (6-2) and Sean Johnson (6-0). Lane’s other men’s winner was Cyrus Hostetler in the javelin (206-7). For the Titan women, Jewel won the 100 hurdles in 15.22 seconds and Nelson was second in 16.08. Other winners were Danica Bates in the long jump (16-6¼) and Rocksi Miller in the javelin (133-4).
  • Lane men, women claim three events each at SOU -The Eugene Register Guard: March 2, 2008
    ASHLAND — Three men and three women won individual events for Lane Community College at the Artie Sullivan Invitational track and field meet on Saturday. For the Titan men, Robby Fegles won the pole vault (15 feet, 2 inches), Seth Lindquist took the triple jump (45-8½) and Andrew Hastings claimed the 110-meter hurdles (16.21 seconds). Women’s winners were Amy Nelson (400 hurdles, 1:08.54), Leah Twombly (3,000, 5:08.40) and Rocksi Miller (hammer, 127-5).
  • Bates finishes third for LCC in multi-event competition -The Eugene Register Guard: March 1, 2008
    CHICO, Calif. — Pleasant Hill’s Danica Bates placed third for Lane Community College in the heptathlon at the Chico State Multi-Event track meet with a two-day total of 3,980 points. Lane’s Calie McVicker was 10th with 3,049. Oregon Tech’s Michelle Klaja won with 4,080.
