- Lane
men take second at NWAACC cross country -The

SPOKANE - Lane placed three runners
in the top five, led by Jordan McNamara's winning performance, but host
Spokane nipped the Titans for the NWAACC men's cross country title on
Saturday. Spokane, with five runners in the top eight, finished with
27 points to Lane's 32. McNamara, a sophomore from Auburn, Wash., cruised
over the 8,000-meter layout in 25 minutes, 25.225 seconds. In the women's
5,000-meter event, Spokane completed the sweep with a winning total
of 36 points to second-place Clark's 80. Lane finished fifth with 116
points. Freshman Toma Starodubtseva, a Churchill High product, was the
Titans' top finisher with an eighth-place time of 19:18.631.

The Lane Community College men's
cross country team was near perfect this past Saturday as the Titans
easily won the NWAACC Southern Region championship in Battle Ground,
Wash. With seven runners placing in the top eight, Lane finished with
17 points, well ahead of runner-up Clackamas at 76, followed by Clark
(88), Mount Hood (88) and Southwestern Oregon (102). The Titans' Jordan
McNamara captured individual honors in the 8,000-meter race with a course
record time of 25 minutes, 9 seconds. He was followed by teammates John
Figueiredo and Joe Churchill, who were both clocked in 25:57, and placed
second and third, respectively. This was the first race of the season
for McNamara, a transfer from the University of Washington. McNamara,
who competed at Riverside High School in Auburn, Wash., finished third
in the 1,600 and 3,200 at the 2005 state track and field championships.
"Jordan has been dealing with a stress fracture since track season last
spring, and this was his first race in nine months," said Lane cross
country coach Ross Krempley, who was honored as men's coach of the year.
"Obviously, he's very talented." Mount Hood's Jarrett Ziemer broke up
the LCC pack with a fourth-place performance, but the next four spots
were all Titan runners: Dustin Moore (fifth, 26:37), A.J. Casteel (sixth,
26:44), Jeff Carman (seventh, 26:44) and Evan Carman (eighth, 26:54).
On the women's side, Clark won the team title with 34 points, followed
by Mount Hood at 41, Lane with 55 and Southwestern Oregon at 84. Mount
Hood's Sheryl Page and Amber Glunt placed first and second, respectively,
with times of 18:46 and 19:28 over 5,000 meters. The Titans were paced
by Toma Starodubtseva, fifth in 19:46, and Danica Bates was ninth in
20:31.

OREGON CITY - Oregon runners took
the top 12 places to easily win the men's team title at the Mike Hodges
Invitational college cross country meet on Saturday at Clackamas Community
College. The Ducks scored a perfect 15 points to win the team title.
Washington was second with 67 points, and Lane was fourth with 93 points.
The Oregon women placed six runners in the top 10 to win the team title
with 24 points. Willamette was second with 50 points. Galen Rupp covered
the four-mile course in 18 minutes, 40.66 seconds to win the individual
title. Shadrack Kiptoo-Biwott was second in 18:58.14, narrowly edging
UO teammate Carlos Trujillo (18:58.79). Kenny Klotz and Diego Mercado
finished fourth and fifth for Oregon. Oregon's A.J. Acosta, running
unattached, was sixth in 19:17. advertisement Lane was led by Joe Churchill,
who finished 14th in 19:46.99. Dustin Moore finished 25th in 20:05.35.
In the women's race, Dana Buchanan led the Ducks with a second-place
finish, covering the 5,000-meter course in 16:47.56. Willamette's Sarah
Zerzan won in 16:25. Zoe Nelson was third for Oregon in 16:49.69, and
teammates Sarah Pearson (17:07.49) and Amanda Stopa (17:11.50) were
sixth and seventh. Toma Starodubtseva, who finished 29th in 18:50, led
Lane, which finished seventh with 171 points.

SEATTLE - The Lane Community College
men finished 13th in the open division Saturday at the Sundodger Invitational
cross country meet at Lincoln Park. Joe Churchill was 32nd in 25:44
on the 8K course to lead the Titans. Jeff Carman finished 74th with
26:27 and Evan Carman was 84th in 26:40. The Lane women finished 22nd,
led by Toma Starodubtseva's 118th place finish in 24:30.

Ross Krempley, Head Cross Country/Assistant Track
and Field Coach (Distance) 2004-
 |
Ross was hired in the fall of 2004 to coach cross country
and mid-distance runners. In his first campaign, three of his athletes
secured Cross Country All-American status. In his second season, he coached
the women's XC team to their first NWAACC title in twenty years, while
the men's team came in second. He is very active among the local running
community, and currently is the president and director of the post-collegiate
team called "Team XO" (www.teamxo.com). Ross is also the meet director
for the XO Invite and has coached at over 30 full week training camps.
As a student, Ross attended the University of Oregon where he received
a masters degree in Education (Biology) and majored in Psychology while
minoring in Business, Biology and Special Education. As an athlete in
college, Ross was a four time Pac-10 finalist in the 800 and 4x400 for
the Oregon Ducks. Upon graduation, he placed 5th in the 800 at the 2003
US Indoor Track and Field Championship.
Tiffany Gibson, Assistant Cross Country Coach 2006-
Tiffany is a first year assistant coach under Ross Krempley.
She is a native of Oregon and a product of Thurston High school, where
she earned all league honors in track and cross country and was a two
year team captain. After High school She competed for two years (2004-2006)
as a Lane Titan, running both track and cross country. In those years
she was a point contributor at NWAACC track championships and a part of
the 2005 Women's NWAACC Cross Country Champion team. She is majoring is
Health & Physical Education.

Grady O'Connor, Director of Cross Country
and Track & Field, 1998-current
Grady has been the Director of both Men's and Women's
Cross Country and Track and Field since 1998. During this time, he has
consistently fielded one of the most competitive teams in the Northwest.
His programs have produced over 100 junior college All-Americans, seven
school records, and several coach of the year honors.
