I Applied for a Scholarship, What Happens Next?

1.    POSTED RESULTS:  Selection Results for most scholarships will be posted outside the Foundation Office after June 5. The Foundation Office is located in Building #3, Second Floor, at Lane’s 4000 East 30th Avenue campus.

Please do not call the Foundation office for results!

If the scholarship you applied for is not posted, please check with the contact person listed in your Scholarship Opportunities Booklet.  Some departments make their selections later in the year and should notify you when they have made their decisions.  In these cases, results will not be available to the Foundation by June 5.

2.     DEPARTMENT NOTIFICATION:  You may also receive a notification letter from the Department responsible for making the final selection on/or after June 5.  If you have any questions regarding this process—call the Contact Person listed in the Scholarship Opportunities Booklet.  Departments do not send out letters to non-recipients.

3.    OFFICIAL NOTIFICATION:  Official notification letters will be mailed by July 31, in the form of a confirmation request.  You must return the completed confirmation request with a thank you letter to the Donor of your scholarship no later than August 31.

Confirmation letters will only be mailed to students who have been awarded a scholarship. If your name is not on the list posted outside the Foundation Office, you have not been awarded a scholarship.  All scholarship recipients will receive a confirmation letter by the end of July.  We do not send results out to students who have not received scholarships.

4.     OTHER FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

My name was on the list of scholarship recipients, but I have not received a confirmation letter.

Call the Foundation Office to verify your address.  We use the address on your scholarship application.  If you moved, we may have inaccurate information. The Foundation Office has a separate database and updating your contact information through the college (ExpressLane) does not update our records.

I received a scholarship, but the money is not in my student account.

Scholarship money will be applied to student accounts in three equal installments (Fall/Winter/Spring).  The first installment will appear in your account around the second week of October.  You can view this information via ExpressLane.

I would like to use my scholarship award to purchase books.

Students wishing to purchase books with their scholarship award must go to the Student Accounts Service Counter in the college bookstore.  Staff will be able to assist you there.

If your account has a hold on it for any reason, your scholarship information will not appear on ExpressLane.

Full-time enrollment is required for most scholarships, as well as satisfactory progress. If you do not meet these requirements, you may not receive your award.

I will be receiving a scholarship, but I have special circumstances that I would like to have considered.

(Example, I will not be full-time, I would like to have funds available during summer term, etc.)  If you are requesting any exception to disbursement of your scholarship, please contact your Department Scholarship Contact, or your Academic Advisor.  “All Major” scholarship recipients only, contact Jackie Bryson in Counseling.  The department contacts and/or counselors will evaluate your request.  Students should request that these exceptions be documented and the Scholarship Contacts/Counselor must send their recommendations via e-mail to the foundation office for final approval.

2007/2008 Steps required to finalize a scholarship award.

If you are selected as a scholarship recipient, these steps must be followed to receive your award.

  • Return confirmation letter along with required thank-you note addressed to the donor to the Foundation office no later than August 31. If you fail to do this, your scholarship will be forfeited.
  • Attend the annual Shining Star Scholarship Reception in December/January.
  • Maintain specific enrollment status as indicated by the criteria, and make satisfactory academic progress, in order for the award to remain intact for the next term. If a student is selected for a scholarship and will not have the required enrollment status for any term covered by the award, contact the Financial Aid office in a timely manner.
