Achieving Dreams

Lane’s 2008 Employee Campaign is kicking off October 15th!
Managed by the We Care Committee, Lane’s Employee Campaign raises much needed funds for scholarships and programs. This year, we have a wonderful matching gift opportunity that can help your gift go even further.
Scholarship Challenge
With your help, and thanks to a generous donation by the James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation, Lane Community College has the potential to increase scholarship funds by $300,000!
The Miller Foundation has challenged Lane Community College, along with Oregon’s 16 other community colleges, to surpass our fundraising for student scholarships with a state-wide grant of $1.5 million.
You can help Lane meet the challenge
Think of it. If we meet the challenge, 300 additional Lane students could receive
scholarships of $1,000! Scholarships achieve dreams!
Past recipients have said,
"Your conribution to my education will never be forgotten. I hope to satisfy every gift given to me by returning my time and energy to those in need of compassionate care"
- Michaelia Carrol, LCC Nursing Student
"Scholarships provided the validation I needed to gain confidence and self-esteem...I am incredibly greatful for the generous investment into my education, which is my future."
- Jessica Myers, Lane Nursing student
How does the challenge grant work?
The Miller Foundation will match new gifts, and increased gifts toward scholarship funds.
- Increased donation example: if you made a donation to a Foundation scholarship last year of $100, any amount you donate over $100 will qualify Lane to receive a match for the same amount.
- New donation examples: If you gave $50 to a non-scholarship fund last year, or if you have not made a previous gift to the Foundation, any amount you give to a scholarship fund will qualify Lane to receive a match for the same amount.
The need is significant. For the 2008-09 school year, the Foundation received 1,745 scholarship applications. We were only able to award 289 scholarships. The Miller Foundation challenge would result in hundreds of additional scholarships for some of our most financially in need students.
Deadline: Miller Match gifts and pledges must be made by March 31, 2009.

United Way - Live United
Along with the Lane employee campaign form you will also receive a United Way donor form, allowing you to give to United Way of Lane County agencies and programs. A donation to United Way of Lane County advances the common good by focusing on education, income and health - the basic building blocks for a good life.
During this year's campaign, we are fortunate to have Donna Cope working with us as our United Way Loaned Executive (LE), representing PacificSource Health Plans, where she worked for 38 years before retiring this summer. She is here to support department representatives to make this a FUN and SUCCESSFUL campaign. Department representatives may call upon her to schedule Agency speakers for department presentations (lexec@unitedwaylane.org with "Donna Cope" in the subject line).
United Way encourages you to "Think of we before me. Open your heart. Lend your muscle. Find your voice." Give. Advocate. Volunteer. Live United!
For more information on United Way of Lane County please see http://www.unitedwaylane.org/ and for information on volunteering http://www.211lane.org/
How can I help?
Your department representative will schedule a brief informational meeting to talk about the campaign with your department. Please attend this meeting and give generously so that Lane students can achieve dreams.
Donations can be given to either the Lane Community College Foundation, to community organizations through United Way of Lane County, or to both if so desired. Your department representative can answer any questions regarding payment options for the donations. For additional information you can contact the Foundation at foundation@lanecc.edu or call 541-463-5226.
When should I turn my forms in?
The campaign runs from October 15th through December 5th. Return your forms to your department representative or to the LCC Foundation office any time during the campaign.
Be sure to sign the forms & keep the back copy for your records before turning them in!
The sooner you turn in your form, the sooner you qualify for donated prizes drawn each Friday during the campaign.
Prizes?!
There will be prize drawings each Friday with a Grand prize drawing the final Friday of the campaign. Each person who gives to the employee campaign will be eligible for the drawings, so it is best to turn them in early for more chances to win!
Prize donations will be gladly accepted. For more information on prizes, please contact Bonnie Phipps at 541-463-5135.
Why should I support the employee campaign?
- The funds raised through the campaign will provide scholarships that will help students achieve academic success. This year, your gift can go even further with the Miller Foundation match!
- Funds can also go to programs at Lane Community College.
- Funds can support community organizations on which many of our students depend to succeed in school.
- It just feels good to make a difference in our community!
