Credit Classes - What are credit classes?
Lane Community College offers thousands of credit classes each year in 80 different disciplines and program areas.

There are two main kinds of credit offerings.

  • Professional/technical classes are related to specific careers. Students can take one class or complete a program. Programs take one to three years to complete. Classes in professional/technical programs meet state standards and earn professional/technical credit. Students in these programs are eligible to apply for financial aid.
  • College transfer classes are credit classes that will transfer to other colleges and universities. Students may take a few classes before transferring or can complete a two-year Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree. Students who take these classes are eligible to apply for financial aid.

See the printed catalog and online college catalog for complete information.

Who can register?
Anyone age 18 or older may enroll with or without a high school diploma. Individuals under 18 can enroll if they have completed their high school diploma or GED or obtain approval from their high school principal. Most classes are open to anyone interested; however, some are designed for students enrolled in particular programs. Be sure to read the “notes” listed with each class.

How do you apply?
The application process is easy and free. See Three Steps to Getting Started, below.

How and where are they offered?
Credit classes are offered during the day and evening, during the week and on weekends, at many college locations, including Cottage Grove, Downtown, Florence, and community learning centers at area high schools. See Locations and Transportation section.
Classes also are presented in many different ways, including

Three Steps to Getting Started for New and Returning Students

Below is a step-by-step guide to admission and registration for credit students. When you have completed these simple steps you will be registered for classes and ready to start the term. As a new student, your registration date and time are determined by the date that you complete your Admission Information Form.

Therefore, early application is important!

Step 1: Florence Center (10-15 minutes)

  • Fill out an application for admission and turn it in.
  • Get a time and date to register for classes.

Step 2: Placement Testing at the Florence Center (1-1/2 to 2 hours)

Lane requires all students who want to register for five or more credits or who plan to take math, Writing 115, Writing 121 or Chemistry 104 to get approval. If you are transferring from another college and have taken math or Writing 121, send your transcript (can be an unofficial copy) or a grade report to the math or English departments on the Eugene campus to get clearance.
