When to Register - Frequently Asked Questions I’m not getting a Lane degree, but am just trying to pick up a few classes. It doesn’t seem fair that my credits from another school don’t count to allow me to register earlier. Is there a way to get an exception? Because Lane does not require students to submit transcripts from other institutions to attend (although we strongly encourage it to help you advance more quickly toward earning a degree or certificate at Lane), we need to have this process fair for all, so it is based on the total number of credits earned at Lane. With over 12,000 students registration it isn’t feasible to accommodate exceptions to this process. Almost all colleges in Oregon and across the country count only their own credits to determine registration priority. What if I haven’t completed very many credits and really need to get certain classes? If I don’t register on the first day, I might not get the classes I need. Can’t you make an exception for me? While there are a few classes that will fill on the early days of registration, our experience shows that students do change their schedules, making spots in classes available after the initial registration process begins. Due to the large number of students registering, we cannot make exceptions. Since there isn’t Advance Registration anymore, does that mean I don’t have to get cleared by an academic advisor or counselor before I can register? Some student will need to see their academic advisor or counselor to be cleared to register, although most students will not need an advising clearance. To see if this applies to you, check your status in myLane under the “When Can I Register?” link. Even if you are not required to see an academic advisor or counselor, we encourage you to do so to make sure you’re taking the right classes to stay on track toward your goals. If there isn’t Advance Registration any more, is it possible to get dropped from classes if I do not pay off my previous term's balance? Yes, your classes can still be dropped! You must pay off your winter term account balance by 11:59pm on Thursday, March 8, 2012 or your spring term classes will be dropped. It is vital that you check your balance in myLane on Thursday, March 8, 2012 after 6 p.m. and pay any balance for winter term. If you think the balance is in error, pay it first and resolve the error later to avoid dropped classes. Once classes have been dropped you may try and register for them again, but the college cannot reinstate them. I checked “When Can I Register” in myLane and it says I have to see a counselor or advisor before I can register. What’s up with that? Currently, the only students who are required to see their academic advisor or counselor are students in Lane’s Guided Studies program. These are students who have tested into Reading80, but have not completed the course (or equivalent course) with a C- or better. Guided Studies students need to meet with Leslie Soriano-Cervantes (counselor) or Judy Rocha (academic advisor) to plan their spring courses and be cleared to register. E-mail registrationinformation@lanecc.edu and we will respond back to your personal question regarding our registration process. |
