Distance Learning Exams

Telecourse Exams
Telecourse exams are taken on the main campus. Look in your syllabus to find the times, days, and locations. Telecourse exams may be at the LCC outreach centers at Cottage Grove and Florence, if the telecourse is offered by the center. If a telecourse is not offered by the center, please contact the center to see if special arrangements can be made for you to take an exam.

Online Course Exams
Some online courses have on-campus examinations. If you are uncertain, contact your instructor to determine if the course requires on-campus exams.

Proctored Testing
Proctored testing is an option available for students who live out of the Lane County area. If you live at a distance and your location prohibits you from taking your examinations on campus or at an LCC outreach center, you will need to find an exam proctor.

An exam proctor is the person responsible for administering your exam. Neighbors, supervisors, friends and family members may not proctor exams. A proctor should be someone who is employed by a facility with experience in exam proctoring. You and your proctor will need to complete the Proctor Approval Form (PDF)* and return it to us.

Proctors must be pre-approved. Begin looking for an exam proctor early in the term since you will be required to follow the same exam schedule as on-campus students. A few suggested places to look for an acceptable proctor are:

The proctor will need to provide a secure testing environment and, depending on the course, a computer with Internet access.  Proctors may charge a fee for their service. The student is responsible for any fees charged by the test proctor.

After submitting the proctor approval form to Distance Learning, we will contact the proctor to verify contact information and the security and appropriateness of the testing facility. We will notify you if the proctor does not meet approval.

After your proctor is approved:

  • Make an appointment with your proctor to take the exams
  • Contact your instructor to request to have exam information sent to your proctor at least one week in advance of each exam date
  • Tell your instructor the days and times (including time zone) of your exam appointments

You must present a valid picture ID to the proctor when taking the exam. Depending on the course, some exams may be taken on the computer. Paper/pencil exams will be sent, faxed, or emailed directly to your proctor with instructions for administering the exams. Your proctor will be responsible for returning the completed exams to your instructor.

Please contact Distance Learning if you have questions about this process or need assistance to locate a proctor.
