WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE FUNDS?
Any Lane Community College CONTRACTED
Classified salaried employee (.500 to 1.0 FTE) who has completed initial
trial service.
WHAT TERMS ARE FUNDS AVAILABLE?
Funds are available for fall, winter,
and spring terms of the 2007-2008academic year. Unused funds from
a term will carry forward into the next term. Any additional funds
available at the end of the 06/08 academic year may be used to start summer
2008events if requested before June 30, 2008. All funding may end
June 30, 2008. NOTE: These funds are provided by the Classified
Professional Development Team, and are not bargained funds.
HOW MUCH MONEY CAN ANY INDIVIDUAL
EMPLOYEE RECEIVE?
Up to $500 per year per person can
be granted to any one employee for activities that take place during the
year (ending June 30, 2008) The CPDT and/or its subcommittee may
grant less than this amount to an individual, depending on the availability
of funds and other factors.
WHAT CAN THESE FUNDS BE USED FOR?
IPPD II funds can be used for travel,
meals, tuition, registration, and other necessary costs associated with
conferences and workshops. The Committee may limit expenditures in
any of these categories when it is judged that the estimated expenditure
is either unnecessary or excessive. IPPD II funds cannot be used
to pay salary costs.
HOW ARE FUNDS AWARDED?
The CPDT and/or its subcommittee award
the funds. Requests must show how the funds requested will further
the applicant's personal/professional development.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR APPROVAL
OF FUNDING?
These funds are intended to benefit
the employee's personal and professional needs rather than the department's
operational needs. In other words, if the conference or workshop
is necessary for the employee to do his/her job, it must be funded by the
department. If the CPDT or its subcommittee determines that an activity
is designed to meet the department's operational needs but will provide
significant personal/professional development opportunities, an exception
may be granted, provided the department agrees to fund its share of the
expense. In addition, the applicant must show how the conference
or workshop enhances his/her contribution to Lane Community College.
Employees are encouraged to seek training
through Lane first due to the quality of instruction available at Lane,
the convenience of the location(s) and the potential cost savings involved.
If the training is available at Lane but the applicant wishes to participate
in the training elsewhere, the reason(s) should be clearly explained in
the application.
Generally, the Committee will fund
no more than one employee from a department to attend a single activity.
It is expected that employees will share their training experiences with
others in the workplace when they return. The Committee may waive
this guideline when it is demonstrated in the application that the training
experience cannot be successfully passed along to others by participants.
FUNDING AVAILABILITY
If the demand for funding exceeds
the available resources in any term to fund all the requests submitted,
the CPDT and/or its subcommittee may choose to award partial funding to
several applicants rather than fully fund a single applicant.
When all other factors are equal and
a choice has to be made, the committee may give preference to:
When all other factors are equal and
a choice has to be made, the committee may give preference to:
1. Those not previously receiving

2. Those who have put together an
individual education plan (IEP)
3. Seniority
APPEALING A DECISION
Although the committee may consider
written appeals when there has been a misunderstanding about the information
contained in the original application, the decisions of the CPDT and/or
its subcommittee are final.
