WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE FUNDS?
Any Lane Community College CONTRACTED
Classified salaried employee (.500 to 1.0 FTE) who has completed initial
trial service.
WHAT TERMS ARE FUNDS AVAILABLE?
Funds are available for fall, winter,
and spring terms of the 2007-2008 academic year. Unused funds from
each term will carry forward into the next term. All funding may
end June 30, 2008. NOTE: These funds are provided by the Classified
Professional Development Team, and are not bargained funds.
HOW MUCH MONEY CAN ANY INDIVIDUAL
EMPLOYEE RECEIVE?
Up to $500 per term can be granted
to any one employee for activities that take place during the year (ending
June 30, 2006.) The CPDT and/or its subcommittee may grant less than
this amount to an individual, depending on the availability of funds and
other factors. (see explanation below)
WHAT CAN THESE FUNDS BE USED FOR?
The CPDT funds can be used for each
of three categories: tuition (UP TO $500), fees (UP TO $150), and
recommended/required books & supplies (UP TO $200), for a maximum of
$500 per term. Depending on the total amount of funds requested each
term, the eligibility committee will determine whether there will be overlapping
between categories. We always recommend turning in all your expense receipts
in case there are more funds than requests. Our goal is to provide the
greatest amount of support available, for the Lane Classified staff.
HOW ARE FUNDS AWARDED?
The CPDT and/or its subcommittee award
the funds. Requests must show how the funds requested will take the
applicant closer to their own personal and professional goals.
WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR APPROVAL
OF FUNDING?
These funds are intended to benefit
the employee's needs rather than the department's operational needs. In
other words, if the training is necessary for the employee to do his/her
job the training must be funded by the department. If the CPDT or
its subcommittee determines that an activity is designed to meet the department's
operational needs but will provide significant career development opportunities,
an exception may be granted, provided the department agrees to fund its
share of the expense. In addition, the applicant must show how the class
enhances his/her contribution to Lane Community College.
Employees are encouraged to seek training
through LCC first, due to the quality of instruction available at LCC,
the convenience of the location(s) and the potential cost savings involved.
If the training is available at LCC but the applicant wishes to participate
in the class elsewhere, the reason(s) should be clearly explained in the
application.
FUNDING AVAILABILITY
If the demand for funding exceeds
the available resources in any term to fund all the requests submitted,
the CPDT and/or its subcommittee may choose to award partial funding to
several applicants rather than fully fund a single applicant .
When all other factors are equal and
a choice has to be made, the committee may give preference to:
1. Those not previously receiving
funding during the current fiscal year;
2. Those who have done annual registration
for a degree or can show evidence of a plan for professional or personal
growth (i.e., IEP);
3. Seniority.
APPEALING A DECISION
Although the committee may consider
written appeals when there has been a misunderstanding about the information
contained in the original application, the decisions of the CPDT and/or
its subcommittee are final.

IF APPROVED FOR FUNDS, WHAT DO I DO
NEXT?
Applicants will be notified in writing
of the amount approved, and will receive a letter of instruction for reimbursement.
SAVE ALL RECEIPTS related to required/recommended books & supplies,
tuition, and/or fees for submission on pre-approved areas.
COMPASSION CLAUSE: It is the
intent of the CPDT to provide pre-approval and then payment after the course
completion. The CPDT reserves the right to evaluate individual extenuating
circumstances and make early payment exceptions if the committee so chooses.
CONDITIONS FOR REIMBURSEMENT
Approved applications will be reimbursed
at the completion of the term under the following conditions:
1. All receipts for sponsored categories
are submitted;
2. For higher degree funding, submission
of grade report is required, showing successful completion. This
information will be kept confidential.
3. All other funding requires a signed
“statement of completion.” We assume you will honor the fact that
use of the fund is limited, and complete classes for which you have been
approved for funding. If you are unable to complete the course, we
request you notify CPDT member Cheryl Reiter as soon as you know, so we
may use the funds for another classified staff member.
WHAT IF MY ACTUAL COSTS ARE GREATER
THAN THE AMOUNT APPROVED?
If the expenses exceed the amount approved,
the employee must pay the difference.
