DELTA BOTTLENECK SLIDE GUITAR, INTRODUCTION

Alternately referred to as Bottleneck, Slide and Delta and North
Mississippi style guitar, this is Roots Americana guitar at the source.
This is an intermediate type course, and geared to teaching the Blues
and style. The class is hands on, taught in the Roots manner. We don’t
use a lot of paper, we do make a lot of noise.

Come join us as we move through ideas and concepts such as tone,
pitch, scales, chords, guitar mechanics (headstock, tuners, frets...)
music theory, and group dynamics.

“feel” the music.

Have you had a harmonica for ages but never learned to play it? Get all
the basics from simple notation, basic blues structure and rhythm, begin
improvising (“jamming”), and learn some familiar tunes. Beginners will
learn how to hold the harp, how to play shuffle rhythms, single notes,
and melodies. All levels of musical experience are welcome!
OLD TIME FIDDLER

Round-up grandpas old fiddle and come join this fiddlin’class with locally
renown old time fiddler Chip Cohen. Chip brings his to the music loving
citizens of Cottage Grove. This class is for beginner-advanced fiddlers.
UKULELE

Wed, beginning April 23, 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
CG High School ($48 + $5 fee) Brook Adams
Learn the essential chords and strums to play and sing a wide variety of
music. Over the course we will cover 25 songs, each one adding new
chords and techniques. We also learn to read chord symbols and
tablature. Reading music is helpful, but not required. Students must
bring a playable instrument, and a love of music. Singing voice optional.
WASHBOARD 101

This class will delve into the history of washboard playing, exploring
different designs, implements, methods, and doohickeys. We will work
on technique, from basic to advanced, touching on musical styles of the
Blues, Cajun, Bluegrass, Jug Band, and more. There will be some
opportunity to jam, including playing with some guest performers.
