This short (8 hour) course will cover several key factors involved in
death investigations. Key factors will include: the Medical Examiner
System, ORS 146, deaths requiring investigation, cause and manner of
death, identification of remains, time since death and postmortem
changes, scene investigation, photography, the autopsy, and interdisciplinary
relations. The course will be directed at law enforcement,
private investigators, deputy medical examiners and other professionals
involved in death investigations. Case examples will be used to
illustrate the important points of the course.

lack of leads, lack of resources and passage of time. This course discusses
how to best prepare missing persons and unidentified cases for this
status. The course covers the types of records that should be collected in
missing persons cases that will later aid in identification of the individual.
