BLOODSTAIN PATTERN ANALYSIS

This class provides an overview of bloodstain pattern analysis (a crime scene reconstruction technique). Course will provide historical and scientific perspective of bloodstain pattern analyses as a forensic investigative technique supplemented by case studies of crime scenes. In addition, information helpful to investigators and law enforcement when reviewing bloodstain analysis reports will be presented.

DEATH INVESTIGATIONS

This short (8 hour) course will cover several key factors involved in death investigations. Key factors will include: the Medical Examiner System, ORS 146, deaths requiring investigation, cause and manner of death, identification of remains, time since death and postmortem changes, scene investigation, photography, the autopsy, and interdisciplinary relations. The course will be directed at law enforcement, private investigators, deputy medical examiners and other professionals involved in death investigations. Case examples will be used to illustrate the important points of the course.

Explore the numerous methods individuals use to obtain personal information from bank statements, computer, credit cards, bills and receipts, insurance papers, medical records, junk mail and what steps people need to perform to protect their credit. Details necessary steps to prepare case for prosecution. The 0.8 CEU obtained from this class can be used toward necessary state certification requirements.

Computers can be found involved in many different types of criminal activities. This presentation involves not only the vast number of personal computers in service today, but the growing use of computers by ordinary non-high-tech criminals to commit fraud, including the crimes of counterfeiting currency, credit card fraud and identity theft.

This course covers several key factors involved in investigations of missing persons and unidentified human remains. Cold cases occur due to lack of leads, lack of resources and passage of time. This course discusses how to best prepare missing persons and unidentified cases for this status. The course covers the types of records that should be collected in missing persons cases that will later aid in identification of the individual.
