Computers are available for out-of-class practice and homework. Community Education students computer lab time is included in the $3 resourse fee paid when registering for a Community Education class(es).


DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY: HOW? TO WOW!

Taking the leap into digital photography can seem daunting. Confusing terms like Megapixel, JPG, RAW, ISO, noise, and digital asset management, can overwhelm and become obstacles to your creative expression. However, when understood, these concepts allow your vision to blossom like never before! Even experienced digital shooters will have something to gain as we build, from-the-ground-up, a solid understanding of concepts and a practical hands-on confidence behind the camera and computer. Within a fun and interactive classroom experience, you will learn to improve your images by studying composition, lighting, subject matter, camera settings, computer photo manipulation, and more.

Previous computer experience recommended. Don’t know the difference between eBay, Google, cookies, and Web 2.0 (MySpace, blogging, wikis)? Then take this beginner’s look at the exciting world of the Internet that includes hands-on experience. Tour the rooms of the White House, explore other countries, download/listen to music, see what is happening in the world of sports and finance, browse through the classified ads, find new recipes, look up misplaced addresses or phone numbers, and even print out maps and driving directions.

Students learn to enter data, edit, format, insert, copy, move, find and replace in cells, rows, columns, worksheets, tables and workbooks. Create charts, formulas, macros, forms and VB programs. Sort, subtotal, import and exchange data with other Microsoft applications. Increase productivity by learning how to track, calculate and present numerical or financial data. Manage sizeable calculations, automatically recalculate and repopulate results. Capture user input to automate repetitive tasks.

Some knowledge of Windows and keyboarding is helpful. This hands-on course offers graduated instruction about Microsoft Office. Learn to use Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The class is designed to take the student through the introductory concepts of each application, then into the integration of documents between the different applications. Additional cost: Textbook.

Personal Computers: A beginning class for students with little or no computer experience. This course is primarily a hands-on skill building class. Covers terminology, using the desktop, simple file and disk management, mouse techniques, and window manipulation. Prior menus and keyboard use is built around games and tasks.
Internet: You don’t know the difference between eBay, Google, and cookies? Then take this beginner’s look at the exciting world of the Internet, which includes hands-on experience. PHOTOSHOP CS2 FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS: MAKE IT SNAP!

This course begins with an overview of the software then quickly moves on to cover essential skills such as: easily correcting exposure and color problems, organizing your collection with the concepts of Digital Asset Management, fixing blemishes, resizing and sharpening for a variety of outputs, incorporating layers, and saving time with actions and keyboard shortcuts.
