MATHMATICS Traditional Intructor-Led Format

MTH 010A WHOLE NUMBERS, FRACTIONS, DECIMALS
(CRN 20905) 3 cr.
Wed, beginning October 1 6:00 p.m.-8:50 p.m.
CGC112 Staff
Students will review whole number skills and learn to compute with fractions and decimals. Students will learn effective math study strategies and demonstrate increased confidence in their ability to study and use mathematics. MTH 010A is intended for students who need to strengthen their basic math skills before moving on to the faster pace of MTH 020.

MTH 020 MATH RENEWAL
CRN 21491) 3 cr.
Wed, beginning October 1 6:00 p.m.-8:50 p.m.
CGC126 . Staff
Emphasis of this course will be to provide competence with the concepts, problem solving, calculator usage and applications of basic mathematics. There will be emphasis on strengthening the students' skills with fractions and decimals. Students will learn order of operations; ratio; proportion; percent; estimation; measurement (US and Metric); average; and perimeter and area of basic shapes. Applications for technical careers will be incorporated into the class for those students in professional/technical programs. Required equipment: Direct Algebraic Logic (DAL) scientific calculator purchase after instructor recommendation.

Mathematics Lab Information

The following math lab classes will be held in Room 108 at the Cottage Grove Campus Wednesday evenings beginning October 8, 6:00 p.m. – 8:50 p.m. Optional class sessions are available on Mondays from 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. beginning October 6th. Instructor: Eric Olsen.
Classes are offered open-entry/open-exit. Students may begin at any reasonable time. Flexible scheduling and variable credit are offered (note that the last day for schedule changes is November 21th). Supplemental cassette video tapes are available for viewing at the center.
The sequence in which mathematics courses are taken is very important. Placement testing is available. A scientific calculator is required for algebra classes.

REQUIRED ORIENTATION

Wednesday, October 1, Room 108

6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Students may attend either orientation.

MTH 020 BASIC MATH REVIEW (LAB)
(CRN 20722) 1-3 cr.

MTH 060 BEGINNING ALGEBRA (LAB)
(CRN 20725) 1-4 cr.
This course is for the student who has not taken algebra recently, or who desires a slow-paced introduction to the subject. This is the first term of a two-term sequence in introductory algebra. Topics include a selective review of arithmetic, tables and graphs, signed numbers, equation solving, linear equations, and ratio and proportion. MTH 060 prepares students for Elementary Algebra MTH 065. MTH 060 and MTH 065 provide a two-term sequence preparatory to Essentials of Algebra MTH 090 or Intermediate Algebra MTH 095. Scientific calculator required.

MTH 065 ELEMENTARY ALGEBRA (LAB)
(CRN 20726) 1-4 cr.
This is the second term of a two-term sequence in introductory algebra. Topics include systems of linear equations, quadratic equations, polynomials, rational expressions, exponents and radicals. When taken after Beginning Algebra MTH 060, prepares student for Essentials of Algebra MTH 090 or Intermediate Algebra MTH 095. A scientific calculator is required.

MTH 090 ESSENTIALS OF ALGEBRA (LAB)
(CRN 20901) 1-4 cr.
Offered as a variable credit 1-4 course using tutorial materials for self-paced study in a math resource center (MRC) setting. Permission to enroll is required for independent study. Third term of a one-year sequence in algebra; function concept, polynomials, rational equations, exponents, quadratic functions, introduction to conic sections, exponential and logarithmic functions, inequalities. Does not satisfy prerequisite material for College Algebra MTH 111 but does satisfy associates of general studies and associates of applied science degree requirements for a limited number of Lane programs. See specific program requirements for details. Scientific calculator required.

MTH 095 INTERMEDIATE ALGEBRA (LAB)
(CRN 22584) 1-5 cr.
Prerequisite: MTH 065 or MTH 070 or equivalent courses with a grade of "C-" or better, or pass a placement test through the Testing Office. Prerequisite grades or test scores must have been completed within the past four terms. If you have taken a higher level math course than this and passed the course with a "C-" or better, you may not use this course for your degree/certificate requirements. Topics include equations, function notation, polynomials, coordinate graphing, rational equations, radical equations, exponents, quadratic functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, inequalities and problem solving methods. Scientific calculator required. Scientific calculator required.
