Lane Community College has completed the new facility in Cottage Grove at 1275 South River Road. The Grand Opening was September 16, 1997. Classes began at the new branch campus on September 22. Funds for the building were provided from a bond measure passed by voters in the LCC district in May, 1995. Construction began July 1, 1996 on a three and a half acre site. The building was designed by gLAs Architectural Group. The general contractor was John Hyland Construction. The building is 18,519 square feet in size. It contains seven classrooms, three computer labs, student resource room, telecourse room, bookstore, student lounge, quiet study area, conference room, general reception area, and offices for faculty and staff.

The community turns out for the GRAND OPENING. Don Strahan, LCC Director for the Cottage Grove program, is the master of ceremonies. Our national and state flags are raised by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #3473 and Ladies Auxiliary of Cottage Grove. The flagpole and flag were donated to LCC by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #3473 and Ladies Auxiliary of Cottage Grove in "memorial to all who served our nation." Featured speakers included Dr. Kathleen Shelley, LCC Board of Directors; Sherry Duerst, Chairperson, South Lane School District Board of Education; Darrel Williams, Mayor, Cottage Grove; Peggy Campbell, President, Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce; and Dr. Richard McCarthy, Chairperson, LCC at Cottage Grove Advisory Committee. The ribbon cutting is done by Dr. Kathleen Shelley and Sherry Duerst. Many people toured the new facility during the grand opening. Background music added to the celebration. Guests enjoyed refreshments following the guided tours.
