Purpose

This procedure will provide students, staff and members of the community the process for applying for borrowing privileges. Borrowing privileges are available to every adult resident of the Lane Community College District. Students, staff and member of the community may use all materials housed in the Library.

Narrative

Students, staff and members of the community may use all materials housed in the Library. Borrowing privileges are available to every adult resident of the Lane Community College District. The length of loan period varies with the type of materials. Under most circumstances, loans may be renewed.

In applying for borrowing privileges, an individual authorizes the Library to assess fees for overdue materials and replacement charges for non-returned items. This authorization includes any fees and charges assessed on items borrowed from libraries with which Lane has reciprocal agreements.

  1. Current Lane students, current and retired Lane staff, and members of the Lane Community College Board of Education may borrow materials from the Lane Library upon presentation of valid photo identification. Students enrolled in the Lane College Now program or Rites of Passage program may also borrow materials, but must complete a registration card and have it signed by the appropriate coordinator or authorized representative.
  2. Lane students, staff, faculty, and retirees also have borrowing privileges through Summit, a consortium of more than 30 academic libraries in Oregon, Idaho, and Washington, and at Bushnell University. Further information on Summit Borrowing is available on the Library's Borrow from Others page.
  3. Residents of the Lane Community College District who are not eligible for borrowing privileges as described above may purchase a Community Borrower card.
