Jewelry Making and Marketing

About the Program

The Jewelry Making and Marketing program is designed to give students comprehensive information of the jewelry industry and will include a sequence of classes that include jewelry making, beading, casting, design and production, marketing, pricing, catalogues and wholesale/retail aspects of the business.  This program consists of 150 hours of core classes and 50 hours of elective classes spread over four terms.

Upon completion of the program, students receive an Award of Completion.  Special project classes are designed for students to complete their projects and are also available for those that want to use the lab for their own projects with instructor assistance.

Silver findingsJewelry and Metalsmithing, Beginning
You’ll come in as a beginner, but over the course of these 10 weeks, we’ll explore and learn the basics of making jewelry and small sculpture from wire and sheet metal. Come ready for hands-on experience with sawing, soldering (torches), surface embellishment, basic metal forming, ring construction, gemstone cuffing (cabochon) and stone setting. We’ll talk about design and technical decisions and everyone will receive plenty of individual attention. Turn your ideas into something special, a finished piece of art that you can wear and be proud of.

Jewelry and Metalsmithing, Open Lab
Open Studio. This is an opportunity to use the LCC studio to work on your own jewelry or small sculpture with guidance from the instructor when needed. All students must have had Beginning Jewelry or an equivalent class or instructor’s permission. You will determine what projects you want to work on or what design ideas or techniques you want to explore. Be prepared to purchase most of your own materials. Use your 30 hours anytime within the time and dates of the open lab.
