Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register for a class, and do I have to pay when I register?

The methods of registration are listed below, along with payment options:

If I miss the first class, will I be automatically dropped from the course?

No.  The ONLY way you will be dropped from a Continuing Education class is if you ASK to be dropped, or drop the class using ExpressLane.  Even if your attendance in a CE course is mandatory, you are still required to drop the course by the drop date if you cannot attend. You will be responsible for paying for the class unless you drop it by the refund date.

If I drop a course, can I get a refund?

Yes, as long as you drop it by the refund date. If you have any question as to the refund deadline of a specific class, call Continuing Education at (541) 463-5252 with the registration number.

If I never attend a class I register for, do I still have to pay for it?

Yes, unless you officially drop the class by the refund date for that class.

Do I have to register for a free class?

Yes.  Even with free classes, we need to stay within class size limits.

Does Lane have an online class schedule?

Yes. Click here to browse the complete schedule of classes.

What’s the difference between Credit and Non-Credit classes?

ALL Continuing Education classes are non-credit, and not applicable toward a degree, even though some of them are graded, and several offer Awards of Completion.

An important difference is that Federal Financial Aid is not available for non-credit classes. We accept Visa and MasterCard payment. Students who register online or in person are billed by the college and are given the remainder of the current term to pay their bill in full. There will be a 2% finance charge added on any unpaid balance after the first billing.

Following are two of a number of private lenders who finance continuing education:

Are scholarships available?

The Continuing Education Department has a small scholarship program. Currently, $1,500 is available each year and may be awarded to multiple students. Scholarships are awarded twice per year. The typical scholarship amount awarded is $250. Preference is given to students enrolled in certificate or pre-license programs. Applications are available at the Downtown Center.

Information about other organizations that offer scholarships can be obtained from scholarship search sites such as www.fastweb.com.

How do I find out if the college is closed due to weather?

Full weather closure information is available at:  www.lanecc.edu/mpr/weather.htm. You can also listen for reports on KLCC FM (89.7) or KUGN AM (590). Announcements are usually made by 6:00 am. for day classes and by 3:00 pm for evening classes.  Canceled classes will be rescheduled by class consensus, usually at the end of the term.

How do I know what the required text is for a class and where do I buy it?

Check with the Lane Bookstore at either the Downtown Center or the Main Campus, depending on where your class will be held.  Tell them the registration number and they will be able to tell you which book you need.

Where can I park while attending class?

Parking on the Main Campus is free.  Most students taking classes at the Downtown Center use the Overpark at 10th Ave. and Oak St. The first hour at the Overpark is free, and it’s free after 6:00 p.m. and on weekends.  For other times, current Lane students enrolled in classes at the Downtown Center can get a Validated Parking Pass that allows them to buy parking coupons for 10 cents/hour (rather than the normal 75 cents/hour).  The parking coupons are also good at the lots at 8th and Willamette, 8th and Pearl, and by using the pay boxes at Broadway and Charnelton. The discounted parking coupons can be purchased at the Downtown Center Enrollment Services counter.
