Don’t miss this lively, interactive workshop where participants will learn:

  • Why students misbehave
  • An effective, impactful classroom management style
  • How a student’s position in the family influences behavior and class dynamics
  • How the proper use of encouragement fosters classroom performance
  • How and why class meetings save time and effort- leaving more time for instruction
  • How to reduce the use of punishment

The Presenters

John Platt – This student of Rudolf Dreikers has been using Adlerian psychology in Oregon high school classrooms since 1959. Platt received his Doctorate from the University of Arizona and now provides keynotes, workshops, and seminars for parents, school personnel, and law enforcement. In over 2,000 national and international presentations, Platt has enlightened and entertained his audiences with humor and a common sense approach to having productive classrooms.

Frank Meder – As a classroom teacher for 25 years and consultant to school districts, Meder is highly respected as a trainer of teachers in the area of classroom management through class meetings. He was named “Teacher of the Year” in Sacramento and Sacramento County and has been a trainer in Europe and North America.

The Presentation

Platt and Meder’s entertaining workshop includes discussions of Adlerian-Dreikursian techniques that help create a respectful, calm classroom atmosphere in which learning can occur. A major part of the day will be devoted to demonstrations and discussions of techniques for successful class meetings.

The Proof

In 1974, Mr. Meder and Dr. Platt started classroom meetings at Camellia School in Sacramento when it was the second lowest achieving school in the state. Three years later, the school had the state’s top achievement rating. Although Frank left Camellia School 12 years ago, classroom meetings are still the cornerstone of the school’s discipline program. The school continues to rank near the top in statewide achievement measurements.

Many teachers said that they simply had no time for class meetings. After attending Platt and Meder’s trainings, and learning their easy, effective techniques, they now report they could not teach without them.
