If you like drawing and developing the plans to build things, a career in drafting is a great choice. Drafters may specialize in architectural or mechanical areas. They prepare the technical drawings and plans used by production and industries. The work of drafters makes the production of manufactured products become a reality. This includes everything from toys to toasters, to industrial machinery, spacecraft, houses, office buildings, and oil and gas pipelines.
Instruction at Lane is based in a CAD lab with advanced hardware and software where you will be trained in the industry standards.
Employers in the engineering and architectural firms that design construction projects employ more than 40% of drafters. Manufacturing and fabrication employ nearly 30%. Government, transportation, utilities, communications, and self-employment complete the sector.
